APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used in the manufacture of springs which wi
3、ll be subjected to moderately elevated temperatures and higher stresses. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Car

Page 2 of 2 3.3 WIRE BEND & FRACTURE TEST Wire 0.162 in (4.11 mm) and smaller in diameter shall wind on itself as an arbor without breakage. Wires having diameter 0.162 - 0.31 in (4.11 - 7.9 mm) shall wind witho
7、ut breakage on a mandrel twice the wire diameter. The wire shall not show a coarse or cuppy condition when subjected to failure test. 3.4 DECARBURIZATION Total decarburization is not permissible. Partial decarburization shall be kept to the minimum depth consistent with a commercial material of this
8、 quality. 3.5 DIMENSIONAL STABILITY REQUIREMENTS The dimensional stability of a spring manufactured under this specification shall be such that no detrimental change in free height or number of coils shall occur when spring is heated to 200 C for 2 h in a free state, except hot set springs. 3.6 MANU
9、FACTURING REQUIREMENT Springs manufactured, utilizing this oil tempered material, must be stress relieved after forming at a temperature sufficiently high to produce a dimensionally stable part under expected maximum operating temperature in the specific application. This stress relieving process sh
10、all not adversely affect the tensile strength of the material. 3.7 WORKMANSHIP The wire shall be uniform in quality and temper and shall not be wavy or crooked. 3.8 SURFACE CONDITION The surface of the wire as received, shall be free from rust, excessive scale, serious seams and deep scratches, pits or rolled in scale. These defects may be revealed by any recognized method. Wire in which cross checks or quench cracks of any depth are found in the material as received, shall be rejected.
