、method is used to determine the deformability of seamless and welded steel tubes by drift expansion. Apparatus Required Test Device or Press Conical Drift Drift must have a smooth surface, a top angle of 60 and a minimum hardness of Rockwell “C“ 45. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values i
、ndicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. The initial sample length “L“ must be a minimum of 1.5 tim
、es the size of the initial outer diameter “di“, but must not be less than 50 mm. The cut ends of the tube must be normal to the tube centerline and the cut edges be rounded off. For testing purposes, the end of the tubes may also be used instead of tube segments. 2. The greased drift is to be impres
、sed so far into the tube section by a test device or press with a constant maximum speed of 25 mm/minute such that the diameter “di“ will be expanded to the final outer diameter “df“ indicated in Figure 1. During testing at 23 +/- 2 C, neither the sample nor the expanding drift are allowed to revolv

Evaluation After completion of the test, the sample must not show cracks in the base material, in the weld seam, or in the heat affected zone. For test completion, a minimum percent expansion must be noted and recorded. minimum percent expansion = d f - d i x 100 di Figure 1 Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
