2、7 RESISTANCE TO LINT PICKUP AND LINT RETENTION OF FABRICS Application This test method determines the lint resistance and lint retention on automotive seat fabrics. This test uses a rotating platform to rub the test fabric against a reference piece of material under a fixed weight. The platform rota
3、tes on a 19 mm radius at approximately 58 revolutions per minute. Apparatus and Materials Required 1. Pilling Tester The pilling tester is described in ASTM D3511 and modified to hold the test fabric to the rotating platform. The round shaped lint cloth holder weight is 660 +/- 5 g, see Fig 1a. Sour

6、lobal Technologies, LLC Page 2 of 7 Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5% relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwi
7、se specified. Procedure 1. Cut two fabric specimens (see Fig 2) 2. Mount the fabric specimens face up on the lower wood board of the pilling tester, see Fig 3. Tightly secure the specimens to the board to prevent wrinkling. 3. Mount the lint cloth on the round shaped holder and secure with the rubbe
8、r “O“ ring as it shows in Fig 1b. Place the holder on the station with the fabric specimen. (see Fig 4) 4. Start the machine to rub the lint cloth on the face fabric for 30 seconds. Lint cloth must be replaced after every test. 5. Remove tested specimens from the wood board. Evaluate the tested spec
9、imen lying flat on the seat of an office chair and then pin it to the seat back. Report both the horizontal and vertical ratings. Label this test specimen “lint pickup“. 6. Vacuum the second specimen using 10 strokes (one stroke is the back and forth motion) with brush attachment. Evaluate the vacuu
10、med specimen lying flat on the seat of an office chair and then pin it to the seat back. Report both the horizontal and vertical ratings. Label this test specimen “lint retention“. Evaluation Compare the tested specimens to an untested fabric. Use the photographic standards on pages 5 and 6 to rate
11、the pick up and lint retention specimens using the following scale: Rating 4 - No linting less than 5 cotton fibers left on the fabric surface Rating 3 - Slight - slight cotton fiber left on the fabric surface Rating 2 - Moderate - large amount of fiber left on the fabric surface and/or a change in
12、the fabric Appearance Rating 1 - Severe- clumps of fibers entangled with the fabric surface or complete coverage of fabric surface by fiber Report the Rating for the lint pickup specimen and lint retention specimen. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used
