2、sure the tack retention of automotive sealers after exposure to heat and sunlight. Apparatus Required Fluorescent Sunlamp Cabinet A modified oven equipped with four Westingh ouse FS 20 T - 12 fluorescent sunlamps is required. The oven shall be maintained at 145 +/ - 5 F for this test. Oven Grieves H
3、endry, Model PL - 1, 1000 watts O.D. - 30 inches wide, 25 inches deep, 24 inches high I.D. - 28 1/2 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 20 1/2 inches high 110 V, AC, 50 - 60 cycle, single phase motor The oven is to be equipped with thermostat control and pilot light. An oven stand is optional. Sunlamp Fixt

Tensile Machine The tensile machine shall be capable of pulling the specimen at a uniform rate of 1 inch/minute. Test Fixture The fixture required for this test is shown in the attached s k
6、etch. The base is approximately 3 x 8 x 1/4 inch thick. The surface to which the sealer is applied shall be smooth SAE 1020 steel, with no pits, gouges or other surface imperfections which will affect the test results. The circular adhesion disc is mac hined from rolled bar steel, SAE 1020, and is t
7、apped and threaded in the center to accept the bolt, as shown in the sketch. The diameter of the adhesion disc is 1.597 inch (2.0 square inches). Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmo sphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % rela
9、tive humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Clean test fixture and adhesion discs with a suitable solvent (M4617, Special Pe troleum Fraction or M547, Petroleum Naphtha) to remove grease and soil. 2. Apply a 2 x
10、7 inch film sealer .060 +/ - .005 inch thick over the base test fixture. 3. Air dry for 1 h at 72 +/ - 5 F. 4 Place test fixture in the sunlamp cabinet and expose for 72 h at 145 +/ - 5 F at a distance of 12 inches from the lamps. 5. Cool at 23 +/ - 2 C for 1 h. 6. Place the adhesion disc over the s
11、ealer film under a 1 lb dead weight for 1 minute. 7. Attach the adhesion disc to a spring scale as shown in the illustrat ion and assemble in the jaws of the tensile machine. 8. Pull at a rate of 1 inch/minute until failure. 9. Deduct the weight of the adhesion disc from the total load required to s
12、eparate the disc from the adhesive material. 10. Clean the adhesion disc wi th M4617 or M547 solvent, locate on another area and repeat Steps 6 through 9. 11. Run three tests and report the average tack retention. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
