SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a non asbestos gasket facing material laminated on to a perforated low carbon steel core. 2. APPLICATION This spe

3、cification was released originally for material requiring high compressive strength and high temperature resistance such as exhaust manifold gasket(s). 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. Note: All tests shall be conducted in acc

4、ordance with ASTM F 104 Type 1 material unless otherwise specified. The requirements of this specification are valid for gasket material of 1.02 to 1.22 mm thickness. Test specimens are to be selected from finished gaskets when practicable. Prior to testing the materials shall be conditioned in an o

5、ven at 100 +/-2 C for 1 hour and allowed to cool to 21 to 30 C in a desiccator containing anhydrous calcium chloride. 3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Quality System Requirements. 3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS

6、 IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when tested under the same conditions.

7、3.3 CONSTRUCTION The composite material consists of a quality grade of graphited non-asbestos/binder material secured to one side of pierced, tin plated, low carbon steel. 12、 F 146) Cycle temperature test to be run only if application results in long term exposure to fuel. Test Method - Apparatus; A suitable distillation flask (test fluid quantity 1 000 mL) for immersion of the test specimens and a reflux condenser. Test cycle- the test samples shall stay completely imm

13、ersed in the test fluid and shall be subjected to the following cycle: Initially, run three cycles of 8 hours at 50 +/- 2 C followed by 16 hours at room temperature. This is followed by 8 hours at 50 +/- 2 C; then 64 hours at room temperature. Finally, run four cycles of 8 hours at 50 +/- 2 C follow

14、ed by 16 hours at room temperature. The following tests shall be conducted within one hour after removal from the test fluid. 3.11.1 Thickness Change 5 to 20 % 3.11.2 Compressibility 16 to 30 % Note: It is advisable to start the test at 8:00 Monday, the full test cycle will then end on a Friday, thu

15、s allowing time to mechanically test the specimens. 3.12 RESISTANCE TO COOLANT & WATER (50:50) (ASTM F 146) Test Method - Immerse the sample in Engine coolant WSE-M97B44-B and distilled water (50:50 Vol. %). Use a suitable distillation flask and a reflux condenser and reflux for 70 hours at boiling

17、tics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any changes to the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify the affected Purchasin

18、g, and Materials Engineering activities (with reasons) of the proposed changes. Upon notification of the Company, further instructions will be provided. Note: Suppliers should be prepared to provide test data and samples demonstrating compliance to this specification, if requested. Substance restric

19、tions imposed by regulations or Company direction applies to the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are identified in Restricted Substance Management Standard WSS-M99P9999-A1. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification for direct supply to the Company must h

20、ave prior approval. Certain materials subcontracted by part suppliers may also require prior approval. These include materials critical to the Companys business for regulatory, safety, environmental or compatibility requirements or contractual agreements. Suppliers desiring approval of their materia

21、ls shall first obtain an expression of interest from Purchasing, Design or Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification.
