2、twith a SBR/nitrile rubber binder secured equally on both sides of a lowcarbon steel core. The assembly is coated with an antistick coating.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used for the intakeman ifold or cylinder head gasket where a material with high compressiv

3、estrength at high temperatures is required.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be u

4、sed to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and

5、thermograms established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.3.3 CONDITIONING A

6、ND TEST CONDITIONSAll tests shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM F 104 type 7materia l unless otherwise specified. The requirements of thisspecifi cation are valid for gasket material of 0.7 to 1.6 mmthickness. Test specimens are to be selected from finished gasketswhen practicable.Prior to te

7、sting, the material shall be conditio ned in an oven at 100+/- 2 C for 1 h and allowed to cool to 23 +/- 2 C in a desiccatorcontaining anhydrous calcium chloride.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSE-M8G243-AWP 3948-b Page 2 of 4 3.4 CONSTRUCTIONCon sists of a low carbon steel core with a sheet of a

8、n SBR/nitrilerubber binder and nonasbestos fiber compound bonded to each side ofthe st eel core. An antistick coating is applied to the gasketassembly.3.4.1 Steel CoreLow carbon steel, thickness as specified on engineeringdrawing.3.4.2 Nonasbestos Sheet and Synthetic Rubber BinderThe nonasbestos she

9、et s hall be plied uniformly and bonded toeach side of the steel core to meet requirements of theap plication at the thickness specified on the engineeringdrawing.3.4.3 CoatingsThe assembly shall be c oated with heat stable noncarbonizingoil and gasoline resist ant film to meet all the requirementso

A 13 mm steel bol t is inserted throughthe hole and a nut put on it. Tighten the bolt to 79 N.m. Heat t

16、heassembly to 149 +/- 3 C for 5 h. Remove and allow to cool to roomtempera ture. 17、terials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Pri or to making any change in the properties, composition,constr uction, color, processing or labeling of the materialorig inally approved under this specificat

18、ion, whether or not suchchange s affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data

19、, t est samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix

20、 (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineeri ng activity. Suppliers desiring approval ofthe ir materials shall first obtain an expression o

21、f interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test faci lity, demons

22、tratingful l compliance with all the requirements of this specification (testresults, not nominal values), the material designation a nd code number, andtes t specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of amateri al will be based on its performance to this specification and on anassessment of suitability for i ntended processes and/or applications. Uponapprov al, the material will be added to the Engineering Material ApprovedSource List.
