SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an air drying clear lacquer. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used to protect unpainted areas
3、 of engine and engine components against corrosion. The material shall be suitable for pneumatic, airless and/or electrostatic spray application. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirement
4、s For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.4 FLASH POINT The flash point shall conform to the safety regulations applicable to the plant and/or country where the material shall be used. 3.5 COMPOSITION 3.5.1 Resin The resin shall be based on a suitable synthetic system to obtain the desired appl
5、ication and resistance properties. 3.5.2 Pigment The pigment shall be balanced and blended so that the finished enamel meets the requirements of this specification. 3.5.3 Solvents Aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols as required to provide performance. 3.5.4 Specific Composition When it is necessary
6、to obtain specific data regarding material formulation, it is understood that the supplier will furnish such data on request. 7、LTM BI 102-01) Minimum solid content 35.0%. This solid limit applies to clear coats adjusted to a viscosity of 30 s Ford Cup 4, at 25 C (FLTM BI 111-01). Solvents may be specified by vendor but shall be Ford Product Engineering Approved prior to use. 3.6.2 Density see Initial Sample +/- 0.02 g/mL (A
8、STM D 1475) 3.6.3 Viscosity (FLTM BI 111-01, Ford Cup 4, 25 C) 3.6.3.1 Package Viscosity, ready for use 30 s Batch variation not to exceed +2 s 3.6.3.2 Test Viscosity Initial Samples and samples taken from production shipments must be tested at 30 - 32 s Ford Cup 4 25 C, and if in excess of this mus
9、t be reduced to this viscosity. The supplier shall state and supply suitable solvent for this purpose when required. 3.6.4 Shelf Stability During a storage of six months at room temperature, the material as received shall not gel or liver upon standing and must be free from settling which cannot be
10、dispersed by normal agitation. The viscosity of the material shall not increase in excess of 15 s Ford Cup 4 25 C, when tested according to FLTM BI 102-03. 3.6.5 Solvent Emissions, max 0.096 kg/L (ASTM D 3960) This requirement is as determined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Ref
11、erence Method #24 but is only applicable to materials used in the USA. 3.7 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS (FLTM BI 103-02, Method F) 3.7.1 Substrate 3.7.1.1 Ford Engineering Approved Standard Steel Test Panels, not phosphated, but degreased in accordance with FLTM BI 103-02. Method F, Procedures # 1, 2,

13、 under test. Spray Booth conditions 25 +/-1 C 45 - 65% Relative Humidity. Spray viscosity Ford Cup 4, 25 C 30 - 32 s Solvent WSK-M14J239-A Xylene, unless otherwise specified by vendor. Other solvents specified by vendor shall be Ford Product Engineering Approved prior to use. 3.7.3 Drying The materi
14、al shall be tack free and able to be handled within 30 minutes of application at 25 +/- 1 C, 45 - 65% Relative Humidity. Sprayed panels shall be air dried and fully cured under the same conditions. 3.7.4 Test Panels For Paint Adhesion and Salt Spray tests panels prepared by both item 3.7.1.1 and ite
15、m 3.7.1.2 shall be used. For all other tests only panels prepared to item 3.7.1.1 shall be used. Panels for Heat Resistance shall also be prepared with film thickness of 60 +/- 5 micrometer. 3.8 APPEARANCE 3.8.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Clear water white to light yellow 3.8.2 Leveling The surface of t
16、he material under test shall be equal to or better than current approved production material for smoothness when applied and dried under identical conditions. 3.9 FILM PROPERTIES 3.9.1 Film Thickness 30 +/- 3 micrometer (FLTM BI 117-01) Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements

18、Overspray of the material shall have no deleterious action on the quality of the compartment paint finish. 3.10 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.10.1 Paint Adhesion Grade 0 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No chipping 3.10.2 Salt Spray Resistance 48 h (FLTM BI 103-01) No rust spots, blistering, chipping, peeling a
19、nd gloss loss. Do not scribe test specimens. 3.10.3 Heat Resistance (Oven Exposure 7 days at 120 +/- 3 C) 30 and 60 micrometer film thickness No blistering, flaking or cracking. Yellowing but no wrinkling is permitted. 3.10.4 Paint Adhesion after Heat Resistance (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No chippin
20、g 3.10.5 Fuel Resistance (FLTM BI 152-01) Current initial fill gasoline, National Standard Premium Grade and Current initial fill Diesel fuel, National Standard Grade. No blistering. Slight softening or dulling of coating is permitted. 3.10.6 Hot Oil Resistance (Immersion 1 h at 90 +/- 3 C) Initial
21、fill engine oil Shall not blister or show more than slight softening or dulling as the Initial Sample. 3.10.7 Electrical Resistance The electrical resistivity of the paint for electrostatic application must be such that it satisfies the requirements of the equipment in the plant using it. 5.
