2、-protective and torque-tension enhancing coating consisting of alimited mobile, water emulsifiable sealer. The sealer can be appliedover a variety of different substrates which include zinc phosphate,painted surfaces, and stainless steel.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally as a
3、secondary sealer overelectro-deposition coatings or zinc/iron phosphate to improve corrosionprotection and/or torque-tension characteristics. It is intended for usein body interior application where a dry to the touch and plasticscompatible finish is required. It can also be used to improved driveto
4、rque of thread forming screws and lubricity of threaded fasteners wheretorque-tension is a concern.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSMaterial suppliers and part producers must conform to QualitySystem Requirements, QS-9000. Material specification requirementsare to be used for initial qu
5、alification of materials. A ControlPlan for ongoing production verification is required. This planmust be reviewed and approved by the relevant Ford Materialsactivity and/or Ford Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) prior toproduction parts submission. Appropriate statistical tools mustbe used to ana
6、lyze process/product data and assure consistentprocessing of the materials.Part producers using this material in their products, must useFord approved materials and must conform to a process control planwhich has been approved by STA and/or the relevant MaterialsActivity.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMET
7、RY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/orthermal analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approvalshall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on fileat the designated
8、material laboratory. 9、ibed herein will not change the original substrate.3.4 COATING THICKNESSCoating in threads and recess areas, such as nuts, and screw headsshall have no adverse effect on normal installation.3.5 COATINGParts must be free from die lubricants and drawing compounds thatwill adversely affect the sealer.3
10、.6 ADHESIONThe coating shall withstand normal handling, storage andinstallation without loss of adhesion.3.7 CORROSION RESISTANCE 72 h min(SAE/USCAR-1)3.8 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the material upon which approval
11、 wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements, the Supplier shall
12、notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposedchanges and obtain the written approval of the MaterialsEngineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new codeidentification are to be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, r
13、egulations or Ford, applyto the materials addressed by this document. The regulations aredefined in Engineering Materials Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMaterials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers
14、 desiring approvalof their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by
15、aqualified and authorized representative of the test facility,demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of thisspecification (test results, not nominal values), the materialdesignation and code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of a material will be based on itsperformance to this specification and on an assessment of suitability forintended processes and/or applications. Upon approval, the material willbe added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
