This standard specifies the test method of determination of pentane and toluene insoluble in used lubricating oils. 1.2 Applicability. 1.2.1 Method A. Applies to the determination of insoluble without the use of coagulant in the pentane and toluene. 1

These materials can come from external contamination, fuel carbon and highly
9、carbonized materials from degradation of fuel, oil, and additives, or engine wear and corrosion materials. Coagulated Pentane Insolubles: Include the matter dispersed in suspension because of the Pentane Insoluble and the dispersant characteristics of the oil. Coagulated Toluene Insolubles: The port
10、ion of coagulated pentane insolubles not soluble in toluene. These materials include the matter separated by using the coagulant and toluene insolubles. Insolubles Resins: Separated matter soluble in toluene but not pentane. These can be calculated for either method A or B by subtracting the toluene
