Th

2、is specification describes the requirements of coated aluminum foil/sheet to be used as a smooth uniform stabilizing insert in extruded molding sections, as described in Section 3. The foil/sheet furnished shall be coated to provide good adhesion between the aluminum and the subsequent extruded over

3、coating of plastic. Any appropriate color of adhesion promoting film will suffice. 1.2 Symbols. Not applicable. 1.3 Typical Applications. This foil material has primary use as a dimensional stabilizer in extruded nonmetallic trim parts (roof ditch molding, side window molding, windshield molding, et

4、c.) 1.4 Remarks. Suffixes to the basic GM number will reflect the various combinations of finish and coatings as follows: Code Description A Bright foil without adhesion promoting film B Bright foil with adhesion promoting film C Black foil without adhesion promoting film D Black foil with adhesion

5、promoting film E Mill finish without adhesion promoting film F Mill finish with adhesion promoting film G Bright foil for vinyl substrate and ionomer overcoating (one side only). H Uncontrolled foil appearance; both sides coated. 1.4.1 Coating used on only one side of foil shall be so noted on engin

6、eering drawing or math data. Note 5: 0.20% Cr, 0.40% Zn, and 0.10% Ti maximum. 3.1.2 Mechanical Requirements. 3.1.2.1 Mechanical Properties. 3.1.2.1.1 The strain-hardened foil o

12、r sheet shall conform to the mechanical properties listed in Table 2 when tested per ASTM E345. Temper designations are described as follows: H14, half hard. H18, full hard. H19, extra hard. If applicable, the surface texture for bright and black s

16、hall conform to the corresponding GM finish standard distributed by the Finish and Textile Engineering of the vehicle groups. The reverse side of the foil may be matte or bright as agreed upon between supplier and purchaser. 3.1.3.2 Coatings. 3.1.3.2.1 The foil shall be coated on both sides with an

17、adhesive material that will provide adequate adhesion between the aluminum and the plastic trim. 3.1.3.2.2 The coating shall provide a minimum peel strength of 9 N per 25 mm width, with substrate tear/break. 3.1.3.2.2.1 Peel Strength Test, ASTM D1876. Heat seal the adhesive coated foil to a plastic

18、sheet of the target substrate (i.e., polycarbonate, butyrate, or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) using production pressure, temperature and time parameters. Perform test using the T-peel method, at a rate of 127 mm/minute per ASTM D1876. Report the method used when stating peel test values (e.g., 12 N/5 mm

19、 of width T-peel. Report the measured peel value and calculate the minimum peel strength of per 25 mm width. 3.1.3.3 Edges. A slit edge shall be furnished. The foil shall be free of any edge defects, such as wrinkling, heavy burr, etc. 3.1.3.4 Dimensional Tolerances. Standard Industry tolerances sha

20、ll apply unless otherwise specified on the purchase order. 4 Manufacturing Process Not applicable. 5 Rules and Regulations 5.1 Legal Regulations. All materials must satisfy applicable laws, rules, regulations and recommendations valid in the country of usage. 5.2 Language. In the event of conflict b

21、etween the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 5.3 Inspection and Rejection. Samples of components or materials released to a GM material specification shall be tested for conformity with the requirements of this material specification and approved by the respo

22、nsible Engineering department prior to commencement of delivery of bulk supplies. A new approval must be received for any changes, e.g., properties, manufacturing process, location of manufacture, etc. If not otherwise agreed, all testing and documentation normally required for initial release must

23、be completed. It is the responsibility of the supplier to inform the customer in a timely manner, without solicitation, and to include documentation of all modifications of materials and/or processes and to apply for a new release. If not otherwise agreed, all release tests shall be repeated and doc

24、umented by the supplier prior to commencement of delivery of non-conforming bulk supplies. In individual cases, a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible Engineering department and the supplier. 5.4 Initial Source Approval. No shipments shall be made by any supplier until representativ

25、e initial production samples have been approved by the appropriate Materials Engineering department(s) as meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.5 Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS). For new product submissions, or when a change in chemical composition of an existin

26、g product has occurred, a complete copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet must be submitted in compliance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) requirements or other country-specific MSDS/SDS requirements. In addition, product MSDS/SD

27、S submissions must be in compliance with specific country General Motors TMC003 Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet guidance documents where available. 5.6 All materials supplied to this standard must comply with the requirements of GMW3059, Restricted and Reportable Substances for Parts. 29、6 Approved Sources Engineering qualifications of an approved source are required for this standard. Only sources listed in the GM Materials File MATSPC under this standard number have been qualified by Engineering as meeting the requirements of this standard. GM Materials Engineering qualifications

30、of a source are required for this standard, as agreed upon between supplier and purchaser.
