4、nge Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the ability of paint to cover oily substrates. 2.0 APPARATUS Recirculating oven capable of maintaining a temperature up to 93 3C (200 5F). 3.0 MA
5、TERIAL 3.1 Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels, 100 x 300 mm (4 x 12 inches), available from Advanced Coatings Technologies, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242. 3.2 SAE 10W30 Series 3 engine oil or equivalent 3.3 Absorbent paper, Kleenix, Kimwipes or equivalent
6、 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Dip two panels in the engine oil to a depth equivalent to one half the panel length. 4.2 Remove the panels and allow to drain in vertical position for 15 minutes. 4.3 Place panels vertically in a recirculating oven for 30 minutes at 88 to 93 C (190 to 200 F) 4.4 Remove the panels
7、and allow to cool in still air at 21 to 27 C (70 to 80 F). 4.5 Using absorbent paper, remove excess oil from bottom edge of the panels. 4.6 Prepare two panels according to the method specified for the grade tested in Test Method GT-13, panel preparation, except eliminate the cleaning and priming ste
8、ps. 4.7 After drying, age the prepared panels in a recirculating oven for 72 hours at 49 3 C (120 5 F). Remove and cool to 21 to 27 C (70 to 80 F). 4.8 Examine the panels: any evidence of cratering, paint film “crawl” or dissolution on either the oiled or unoiled portions of the panel will constitute a failure. 5.0 REPORT Report whether the paint passes or fails this test.
