Change Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method to determine nonvolatile (solids) content of paint by weight. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 2.1 Plastic disposable syringe, 5 ml capacity, B-D Luer Lok No. 805
5、L/S or equivalent. 2.2 2.2 Recirculating oven which maintains a temperature of118 3C (245 5F). 2.3 2.3 Balance with a sensitivity of 0.0001. 2.4 2.4 Desiccator. 2.5 2.5 A syringe holding yoke, constructed from Nichrome wire. 2.6 2.6 This attachment is used to hold syringe vertically during weighing

(See illustration) 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Aluminum foil pan, 60 mm in diameter, Wilkens-Anderson No. 29025 or equivalent 3.2 Absorbent paper, Kleenex, Kimwipes or equivalent 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Run this test five times for each paint sample being tested. 4.2 Determine the weight of the aluminum p

Do not allow perspiration to accumulate on the syringe during

Wipe the syringe tip with absorbent paper to clean the paint away. 4.5 Determine the total weight of the sample and syringe to + 0.0001 gram and record as
9、 weight W2. Weigh as rapidly as possible, preferably on a projection balance, keeping syringe in vertical position with a yoke accessory so that syringe opening is on top. 4.6 After transferring approximately 1 gram of paint from the syringe to the aluminum foil pan, reweigh the sample and syringe t

Allow solvents to flash off for 15 minutes in still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 4.8 Place the foil pan and sample in a recirculating oven preheated to 118 + 3C (245 + 5F). After two hours, remove and cool in a dessicator to 21 to 27C (7
