The ITU Telecommunication Standa

3、rdization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of the ITU. Some 179 member countries, 84 telecom operating entities, 145 scientific and industrial organizations and 38 international organizations participate in IT-T which is the body which sets world telecommunications standards (Recommendations). Th

4、e approval of Recommendations by the Members of ITU-T is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSC Resolution No. 1 (Helsinki, 1993). In addition, the World Telecommunication Standardization Conference (WTSC), which meets every four years, approves Recommendations submitted to it and establishes th

5、e study programme for the following period. In some areas of information technology which fail within IT-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on acollaborative basis with IS0 and EC. X.212 (1995 E) Summary This Recommendation I International Standard defines the set of capabilities, in terms of an abstract service definition, provided by the Data Link Layer to the Network Layer. F

20、or designers of Network Layer protocols, it provides a definition of the Data Link service to allow design and implementation independent of details of the Data Link Layer protocol. For designers of Data Link Layer protocols, it defines the set of capabilities to be made available through the action

21、 of the protocol. Introduction This Recommendation I International Standard is one of a set of Recommendations I International Standards produced to facilitate the interconnection of information processing systems. It is related to other Recommendations I International Standards in the set as define

22、d by IT-T Rec. X.200 I ISO/IEC 7498-1,OSI Reference Model - The Basic Model. The reference model described by ITU-T Rec. X.200 I ISO/IEC 7498-1 subdivides the area of standardization for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) into a series of layers of specification, each of a manageable size. This Reco

23、mmendation I International Standard defines the services provided by the Data Link Layer to the Network Layer at the boundary between the Data Link and Network Layers of the OS1 Reference Model. It provides for the designers of network protocols a definition of the Data Link Service existing to supp

24、ort the network protocol and for the designers of Data Link Protocols a definition of the services to be made available through the action of the Data Link Protocol over the underlying service. The relationship is illustrated in Figure Intro. 1. Throughout the set of OS1 Recommendations I Internatio

25、nal Standards, the term “service” refers to the abstract capability provided by one layer of the OS1 Reference Model to the layer immediately above. Thus, the Data Link Service defined in this Recommendation I Intemational Standard is a conceptual architectural service, independent of administrative

28、e primitive actions and events of the service; the parameters associated with each primitive action and event, and the form that they take; and the interrelationship between, and the valid sequences of these actions and events. The principal objective of this Recommendation I International Standard

29、is to specify the characteristics of a conceptual Data Link Service and thus, supplement the OS1 Reference Model in guiding the development of Data Link Protocols. This Recommendation I International Standard does not specify individual implementation or products, nor does it constrain the implement

30、ation of Data Link entities and interfaces within an information processing system. There is no conformance of equipment to this Data Link Service Definition Recommendation I International Standard. Instead, conformance is achieved through implementation of conforming Data Link Protocols that fulfil

38、dation I International Standard makes use of the following terms: a) data-link-connection An association established by a Data Link Layer between two or more Data Link Service Users for the transfer of data, which provides explicit identification of a set of Data Link data transmissions and agreemen

39、t concerning the Data Link data transmission services to be provided for the set. NOTE -This definition clarifies the definition given in ITU-T Rec. X.200 I ISO/IEC 7498- 1. b) data-link-connection-mode data transmission The transmission of a Data-link-service-data-unit within the context of a Data-

The service model, service primitives, and time-sequence diagrams used are entirely abstract descriptions; they do not represent a spe

X.210 I ISO/IEC 1073 i), convey parameters which indicate info

44、rmation available in the user/provider interaction. The parameters which apply to each group of Data Link Service primitives are set out in tables in clauses 12 to 14 and 19. Each “X” in the tables indicates that the primitive labelling the column in which it falls may cany the parameter labelling t

45、he row in which it falls. Some entries are further qualified by items in brackets. These may be: a) A parameter specific constraint: (=) indicates that the value supplied in an indication or confirm primitive is always identical to that supplied in a previous request or response primitive issued at

46、the peer service-access-point Indication that some Note applies to the entry: (See Note X) indicates that the referenced Note contains additional information pertaining to the parameter and its use. In any particular interface, not all parameters need be explicitly stated. Some may be implicitly ass

47、ociated with the DLSAP at which the primitive is issued. b) 6 Overview of the Data Link Service The DLS provides for the transparent and reliable transfer of data between DLS users. It makes invisible to these DLS users the way in which supporting communications resources are utilized to achieve thi

48、s transfer. In particular, the DLS provides for the following: Independence of undedying Physical Layer - The DLS relieves DLS users from all concerns regarding which configuration is available (e.g. point-to-point connection) or which physical facilities are used (e.g. half-duplex transmission). Tr

49、ansparency of transferred information - The DLS provides for the transparent transfer of DLS user- data. It does not restrict the content, format or coding of the information, nor does it ever need to interpret its structure or meaning. Reliable transfer of data - The DLS relieves the DLS user from loss, insertion, corruption or, if requested, misordering of data which may occur. In some cases of unrecoverable errors in the Data Link Layer, duplication or loss of DLSDUs may occur. NOTE 1 - Detection of duplicate or lost DLSDUs may be p
