、n U.S.A. MSS STANDARD PRACTICE SP-135ii FOREWORD This MSS Standard Practice, SP-135, is widely used in multiple valve and piping industries and is aligned with the Class-rated design, testing and material requirements of ASME B16.34, and the Class rated pressure, temperature, and dimensional require

、ments of ASME B16.5 and B16.47. MSS SP-135 is the principal ASME Class rated knife gate valve standard and it is widely accepted as the principal Knife Gate Valve standard for industry users that include: paper, chemical, petro-chemical, hydroelectric power, and fossil fuel power valve and fittings

、systems. MSS Standard Practice SP-135 was originally published in 2006 as SP-135-2006, High Pressure Steel Knife Gate Valves for the purpose of providing an industry need for a knife gate valve standard that involved high pressure and a Class rated design. The revised 2010 edition of SP-135 revised

、the title slightly and expanded the valve NPS (DN) coverage; including two (2) sets of Face-to-Face dimensions (Short and Long Pattern). The original one (1) set of Face-to-Face dimensions included in the introductory 2006 edition of SP-135 was retained and rearranged in the tables of the revised 20

、10 edition of SP-135 as follows: CLASS 150: CLASS 300: NPS 24 (DN 600) Short Pattern This 2016 edition of MSS SP-135, in addition to various editorial and formatting updates, includes: (1) revisions to tables and numbering; (2) an additional Section 5.2.2 marking option; (3) inclusion of NPS 2 36 (D

、N 50 900) Class 600 valve dimensions in revised scope, body text, and new Tables 3/3M; (4) editorial clarification of several table headings and notes; and (5) updating of the organizations and references in Annex A. This edition was also approved by an ANSI/MSS Consensus Committee and ANSI as an Am

SCOPE 1.1 This Standard Practice covers the construction requirements for lug- and wafer-type knife gate valves made from ASME Code materials and meeting the applicable gate valve requirements of ASME B16.3

、4. INFORMATIONAL NOTE: ASME B16.34 Special Class and Limited Class are outside the scope of this Standard Practice. 1.2 This Standard Practice covers flanged body designs compatible with ASME B16.5 flanges for NPS 2 (DN 50) through NPS 24 (DN 600) and ASME B16.47 Series A flanges for NPS 26 (DN 650)

、 through NPS 48 (DN 1200). 1.3 As an alternative to Section 1.1, this Standard Practice also covers valves that do not meet the body wall thickness of ASME B16.34 but shall be qualified by a proof test. The Class 150, 300, and 600 dimensional, material, and other requirements of this Standard Practi

、ce, shall apply to these valves. 2. STANDARD UNITS The values stated in either U.S. customary units or SI (metric) units are to be regarded separately as the “standard”. Within the text, the SI (metric) units are shown in parenthesis. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; there

、fore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with this Standard Practice. 3. PRESSURETEMPERATURE RATINGS 3.1 This Standard Practice is limited to valves with Class 150, Class 300, and Class 600 pressure-temperature rat

、ings, as described in ASME B16.34 and shall meet all requirements of ASME B16.34, Section 2, for Standard Class pressure-temperature ratings applicable for the material of valve construction. See Section 1.1 of this Standard Practice. 3.2 Class 150, Class 300, or Class 600 valves not conforming to t

、he ASME B16.34 wall thickness requirements may be pressure-temperature rated by the manufacturer in accordance with proof pressure test data requirements of UG-101 of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII. The manufacturers rating shall not exceed the applicable Standard Class 150, Stan

、dard Class 300, or Standard Class 600 flanged valve rating of ASME B16.34 for the applicable body material. 3.3 The body material and design shall establish the pressure-temperature rating of the valve. If the material for the bonnet, or other pressure boundary item, is different than the body mater

、ial, the design shall be reconciled to insure that the body pressure-temperature rating is maintained at all temperatures. 4. SIZE The valve sizes in Tables 1, 2, and 3 (NPS), and Tables 1M, 2M, and 3M (DN), are the nominal sizes of the end connections. NOTE: The Nominal Diameter (DN) size used in i

、nternational and other standards is related to NPS in this Standard Practice as follows: DN = 25 x NPS (For NPS 4) MSS STANDARD PRACTICE SP-1352 5. MARKING 5.1 Valves shall be marked in accordance with ASME B16.34, MSS SP-25, and with the following requirements and modifications: a) Manufacturers na

、me or trademark/logo. b) The body material of construction or code, when more than one material or grade of material is used each shall be identified. When lining in contact with the fluid is used, it shall be listed and identified as “lining”. It is not required to repeat the material designation o

、n fabricated bodies. c) For valves manufactured for closure in one direction only, the valve shall be marked showing the “seat side” (downstream side) of the valve in such a manner that the markings can be seen with the valve installed in the pipeline. The user shall be responsible for correct direc

、tional installation. Bi-directional closure valves need no closure direction marking. d) A tag is to be attached to the valves for installation purposes indicating: 1) Care to be taken in valve installation with respect to direction of closure. 2) Care to be taken when installing studs or bolts in t
