This standar

12、d includes requirements for the epoxy coatings and instructions for ordering, cleaning, coating, inspecting, handling, transporting, and installing the reinforcing bars. This standard was originally prepared in 1995 by Task Group (TG) T-3K-4 with input from members of NACE Group Committee T-6, “Prot

13、ective Coatings and Linings”; and revised in 1999 by Work Group (WG) T-11-3a (formerly TG T-3K-4), “Organic Coatings for Steel Reinforcing Rod in Concrete,” a component of TG T-11-3, “Coatings for Concrete and Reinforcing Steel.” It was revised in 2013 by TG 052 (formerly WG T-11-3a), “Fusion-Bonded

14、 Epoxy Coating of Steel Reinforcing Bars.” TG 052 is administered by Specific Technology Group (STG) 01, “Reinforced Concrete,” and is sponsored by STG 46, “Building Systems”, which merged in 2013 with STG 11, “Water and Water Treatment Systems.” This standard is published by NACE under the auspices

20、 method to deformed and plain steel reinforcing bars that are suitable for fabrication after coating. This standard includes requirements and guidelines for ordering, cleaning, coating, inspecting, handling, transporting, and installing the reinforcing bars. 1.2 Requirements for FBE coatings and pat

21、ching materials are given in Appendix A (mandatory). 1.3 The coating applicator is identified throughout this standard as the manufacturer. _ Section 2: Definitions The definitions of many of the corrosion-related terms used in this standard can be found in NACE/ASTM(1)G193.1Other terms not included

22、 therein that have been used in this standard are defined as follows: 2.1 Chemical Surface Treatment: A preparation of the blast-cleaned steel surface before coating application that is designed to pretreat the metal, promote coating adhesion, improve corrosion resistance, and increase blister resis

23、tance. 2.2 Damage: A discontinuity in a protective coating that is visible to normal or corrected vision that exposes the steel surface to the environment. 2.3 Fusion-Bonded Epoxy Coating (FBE): A protective coating containing pigments, thermosetting epoxy resins, cross linking agents, and other add

24、itives that is applied in the form of a dry powder onto a clean, heated metallic substrate maintained at a sufficient temperature to cause the dry powder to fuse into a continuous barrier coating. 2.4 Holiday: A discontinuity in a protective coating that exposes unprotected surface to the environmen

25、t. 2.5 Patching Material: A two-part epoxy coating formulated to be compatible with and used to repair damaged or uncoated areas of the FBE coating. 2.6 Purchaser: An individual or company that is responsible for providing the product order requirements. 2.7 Wetting Agent: An additive that lowers th

26、e surface tension of water, thereby allowing the water to penetrate more effectively into small discontinuities in the coating and facilitate more accurate detection of holidays. _ Section 3: Ordering Information 3.1 The purchaser shall specify: 3.1.1 Reinforcing bar specification and grade (see Par

27、agraph 4.1); 3.1.2 Quantity of bars; 3.1.3 Size and length of bars; 3.1.4 Requirements for certification (see Sections 5 and 15); 3.1.5 Requirements for patching material (see Paragraph 4.3); (1)ASTM International (ASTM), 100 Barr Harbor Dr., West Conshohocken, PA 19428-2959. 28、rnational 3.1.6 Requirements for samples of the powder coating (see Paragraph 4.4); 3.1.7 Requirements for coating application (see Section 5); 3.1.8 Specific requirements for test frequency (see Section 9), and 3.1.9 Supplementary requirements, if any. 3.1.10 Purchaser shall specify which measureme

29、nt system is to be used (i.e., metric International System of Units (SI)2or U.S. Customary U.S.). NOTE: In this standard the metric units do not represent exact values in U.S. customary. Values shown in parentheses are U.S. customary. 3.1.11 Access to the coating manufacturing facility (see Section

30、13). 3.2 The coating application procedures and processes should be audited by an independent certification programsuch as that provided by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute(2)(CRSI)3or equivalent. _ Section 4: Materials 4.1 Steel reinforcing bars to be coated shall meet the requirements as s

31、pecified by the purchaser, and shall be free of contaminants such as oil, grease, paint, chlorides, or surface imperfections that may affect the coating performance. Refer to Paragraph 8.3 of this standard. 4.1.1 Before coating, the steel reinforcing bars shall be inspected for suitability for coati

32、ng. Bars that are deemed unsuitable for coating shall not be coated. NOTE: Bars with sharp edges on the deformations, rolled slivers, or other surface imperfections are difficult to coat properly. The coating flows away from the sharp edges and may cause inadequate coating thickness at these points.

33、 4.2 The epoxy powder coating supplied shall be labeled with the following information: (a) Powder manufacturers name; (b) Product description; (c) Product number; (d) Batch/lot number; (e) Manufacturing date and location; (f) Storage and transportation temperature requirement; and (g) Shelf life/ex

34、piration date. 4.3 The epoxy powder coating and patching material shall meet the requirements listed in Appendix A (Sections A2 and A3) of this standard or ASTM A775/A775M.44.3.1 If specified in the purchase order, the purchaser shall be furnished with a written certification properly identifying th

35、e number of each batch of powder coating used, material type, quantity represented, date of manufacture, name and address of the manufacturer, and a statement that the supplied powder coating meets the requirements of Appendix A of this standard. 4.3.2 The powder coating shall be stored in a tempera

36、ture-controlled environment until ready for use in accordance with the written recommendations of the powder coating manufacturer. If the storage temperature is below the plant ambient temperature, the powder coating shall be given sufficient time to reach 5 C ( 9 F) of the plant ambient temperature

SP0395-2013 NACE International 3 4.3.3 The powder coating and patching material shall be used within the written recommended shelf life, as indicated by the manufacturer. 4.4 If specified in th

38、e purchase order, a representative 230 g (8 oz) sample of the powder coating from each batch shall be supplied to the purchaser. The sample shall be packaged in an airtight container and identified by batch designation. 4.5 If specified in the purchase order, patching material recommended by the pow

39、der coating manufacturer in accordance with Appendix A, Section A3, shall be supplied to the purchaser. _ Section 5: Coating Application 5.1 The application facility must be capable of applying the coating materials in accordance with the requirements of this standard. A written application and test

40、ing procedure shall be available for auditing by an independent certification program such as that provided by CRSI, or equivalent. _ Section 6: Surface Preparation 6.1 The surface of the steel reinforcing bars to be coated shall be cleaned by abrasive blast cleaning to near-white metal in accordanc

41、e with NACE No. 2/SSPC(3)-SP 10.56.1.1 One hundred percent of the grit used should be of 55 Rockwell hardness or greater. 6.1.2 One of the following visual standards should be used to compare the final surface condition: ASTM D2200,6SSPC-VIS 1,7or ISO(4) 8501-1.86.1.3 The surface profile shall be a

42、minimum of 38 m (1.5 mil) from peak to valley in accordance with NACE Standard RP0287,9ISO 8503-410(stylus method), or ISO 8503-511 (replica tape method). Maximum depth shall not exceed 100 m (4 mil). The profile measuring device shall be calibrated every 4 hours. 6.1.4 The abrasive materials (inclu

43、ding recycled materials) shall be maintained clean, dry, and free from contaminants in accordance with SSPC-AB 1,12SSPC-AB 2,13and SSPC-AB 314so as not to contaminate the substrate. 6.2 Multidirectional, high-pressure dry air knives shall be used after blasting to remove dust, grit, and other foreig

44、n matter from the steel surface. The air knives shall not deposit oil on the steel reinforcing bars. 6.2.1 Steel reinforcing bars found to be salt-contaminated from exposure to deicing salts or salt spray should be cleaned by phosphoric acid washing, or other suitable methods, after the abrasive bla

45、st in accordance with the written instructions from the cleaning-solution manufacturer, to remove contaminants from the surface. Alternatively, bars may be rejected. When acid wash is used, acid from the steel surface shall be removed. A high-pressure deionized water wash should be used. The pH of t

46、he wet surface after the water wash shall be greater than 6 when tested with a pH paper. 6.3 Chemical Surface Treatment 6.3.1 A chemical wash and/or application of a surface treatment chemical to the steel reinforcing bar surface may be used to enhance coating adhesion. The surface treatment shall b

47、e applied after abrasive cleaning and phosphoric acid wash if specified, in accordance with the written application instructions by the surface treatment manufacturer.
