、PROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 7.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentatio

The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 8.0 SHIPPING AND HANDLING Shipping and identification shall be in

Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment detrimental to the appearance of the part. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS 9.1 Drawings In specifying hot rolled steels on engineering drawings, it is desirable to a
、llow as many options as possible at the manufacturing level and still insure proper engineering performance. This is the purpose of the system of coding steels covered in MPAPS A-0, Part II. 9.1.1 Since either a code from A-0, Part II, or a specific grade from A-0, Part I, may be specified on the dr
、awing, there is ordinarily no need to make a drawing reference to A-1. 9.1.2 0-XXX codes, Table I, A-0, Part II, are to be selected in all cases where either hot rolled or cold drawn steel may be used, and the minimum mechanical properties listed are adequate. In case of critical parts where the fre
、edom of the coding system cannot be allowed, or where codes covering the proper material do not yet appear in A-0, Part II, steel shall be specified by steel grade and reference to this specification. 35、steel bars and rods have the lowest cost per pound of any steel bars and can be used economically in many applications. They have good formability, weldability and machinability in certain grades. These properties decrease with increasing carbon content which limits use of unannealed bars and rods t
、o the low and medium carbon grades. Alloy steel bars have limited usage in the as-hot rolled condition, since the full value of alloy steel is realized only by heat treatment. A.2 Quality Hot rolled carbon steel bars are available in two fundamental qualities: A.2.1 Merchant Quality These bars are p
、roduced from rimmed, capped or semikilled steel and may not be restricted in any way. This quality will normally contain seams and surface defects but is suitable for non-critical applications involving mild cold bending, mild hot forming, punching and welding. A.2.2. Special Quality These bars are
、manufactured in such a manner as to minimize injurious internal defects and surface imperfections. Special Quality bars are intended for applications involving forging, heat treating; cold drawing, turning, and other special processes. Some specific applications require a unique quality designation
、beyond Special Quality as an aid to the manufacture of acceptable parts. These additional designations are: a. Scrapless Nut Quality b. Axle shaft Quality c. Cold Extrusion Quality d. These requirements include: special heat treating, macroetch test, fracture test, nonmetallic inclusion test, restrictive chemistry, special discard, special surface, restricted decarburization limits. Additional special controls are necessary to meet more than one of these requirements and cumulative restrictions may be conflicting or technologically impractical. A.4 Decarburization All hot rolled bars have decarburization at the surface unless removed by machining operations. Decarburization reduces hardness, wear resistance, fatigue strength and causes poor heat treating response.
