5、r making connections between pipes used in the exhaust system. The pipe described in this document is not to be used when raw fuel is present in the exhaust gas traveling through the piping; bellows per MPAPAS F-1068 should be specified when this is the case. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers requ
6、irements for the material, construction, dimensions, quality, leakage, installation, design guidance, source approval and quality control, for both types of hose. 11、or 4-inch O.D. hose or larger: Type 302, Type 304, 304L or Type 321 stainless steel per MPAPS A-37, cold rolled stainless steel strip 0.015-0.020 inch thick, Finish No. 2D, 2B, or Bright Annealed. 4.1.2 For hose greater than 2.5” O.D. and less than 4” O.D.: Type 409 or 300 series Stainless Steel per
12、 MPAPS A-37. Exception: Pulling force for a 15% min extension shall be a maximum of 45 pounds (see Construction Requirement, Section 4.2). 4.1.3 For 2.5” O.D. hose: 300 series stainless steel per MPAPS A-37 (Optional: Type 439 stainless steel) 4.2 Construction Hose shall be constructed of an interlo
13、cked series of metal convolutions tightly wound about an axis so as to require a maximum pulling force of 35 pounds* to achieve an extension of 15% from the compressed length. Extension shall be 2.5 inches per foot minimum from the compressed position. Hose may be provided unpacked or packing with c
14、opper or stainless steel wire is permissible; asbestos packing shall not be used. End coils shall be tack-welded (both ends) after cutting to length (refer to Section A.1.1). Both ends shall have all burrs removed. * Note: There is a direct correlation between the minimum allowable pulling force to
15、achieve a 15% extension and the maximum allowable leakage rate. The max allowable leakage rate constrains the minimum pulling force. 4.3 Leakage Rate Maximum leakage rate of hose in the one-half extended position shall be two standard cubic feet of air per minute per foot of hose at 4 psig. Tolerance for compressed (solid) length is +0.050/-0.000 inc
21、h (+1.25/-0.00 mm). Cut lengths of hose shall be furnished in an extended length which is approximately midway between the compressed length and full extension (see engineering tabulations for specific requirements); tolerance for furnished length is +0.25/-0.00 inch (+6.5/-0.00 mm). 4.6 Straightnes
22、s - applies to both Type I and Type II Cut lengths of hose shall be straight within 0.25 inch/foot (20 mm/m). 4.7 Installation Install hose in the 10 %, partially extended position, normally one-half of the total extension. 4.8 Bending Radius The minimum inside bend radius for flex pipe connections
23、is shown below: Note: Installation of the flex pipe in a bent condition may significantly reduce the service life of the flex pipe because opposite sides of the flex pipe will be either extended or compressed beyond the recommended half extended length. If the flex pipe is installed in a bent condit
24、ion, any further extension or compression may cause yielding of the coils within the bend. 25、provides a preferential direction of gas flow through the hose/pipe as indicated in Figure 1. The flex hose shall be marked on the outside diameter of the hose to indicate the preferred direction of flow. The method of marking and frequency of the markings shall be agreed upon between Engineering, t
26、he Quality Department of the receiving NAVISTAR Plant(s), and the supplier. Upon agreement, no changes in the marking procedure/process will be made without the prior approval of Engineering and the Plant Quality Department(s). An example of an approved marking is shown in Figure 2. NAVISTAR enginee
27、ring assembly drawings should specify the flow direction when flex pipe is used in the assembly. APRIL 2016 Page 4 of 7 4.10 Welding flex hose to pipe 4.10.1 Weld Quality 4.10.1.1 Appearance The weld should be smooth and continuous all the way around the pipe. There cannot be start and stop points that create stress ri
29、sers in the flex hose which could lead to premature failure. The start and stop point should never be co-located with cut coil end (See Figure A1). Also, the weld must follow the edge of the cut flex hose and should not cross over into adjacent corrugation for the same reason as above. 4.10.1.2 Leak
30、 Rate The total leak rate for the welded assembly should not exceed the leak rate of just the flex hose as specified in Section 4.3. In other words, the weld should be airtight at the pressure specified in Section 4.3. 4.10.1.3 Engagement/Overlap For welded assemblies, the overlap of the flex hose t
31、o the pipe should be 19 mm. 4.10.1.4 Filler Metal Table XV in MPAPS A-37 Appendix provides recommended filler metal for welding various combinations of stainless steel and low carbon steel. 4.11 Installation The flex hose shall be installed in the truck exhaust system in such manner that the flow di
32、rection label on the hose is aligned with the direction of the exhaust gas flow. 5.0 QUALITY Hose shall be clean and free from chips, burrs, slivers, nicks, and gouges. 35、f production shipment. Samples shall be accompanied by test data certifying that all requirements of the specification have been met. 6.1 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for products supplied to the requirements of this specification will be established by mutual agreement between NAVIST
36、AR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following characteristics, where applicable*, shall be included in the plan as features for management by statistical process control.* 1. Type I Hose: ID within 1.6 0.060 inches of each end. 2. Type II Hose: OD within 1.6 0.060 inches of
37、each end. 3. Both Types: Furnished (one-half extended) length as specified on the tabulation drawing for that part number or as agreed * Other characteristics for inclusion in the control plan may be specified on the engineering drawing and/or purchase order. * See NAVISTAR Engineering Design Standa
38、rd A-16 7.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 7.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval
39、Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 7.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specific
40、ation shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product
41、are required, the supplier shall notify NAVISTAR Materials Engineering and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in a
42、ccordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 7.3 Process Control The supplier shall either, perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been p
43、roduced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. APRIL 2016 Page 6 of 7 the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 8.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION
45、 Shipping and identification shall be in accordance with NAVISTAR Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13. Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment detrimental to the appearance of the part. Flex pipes shall be packed with their main axis horizontal to the ground. Pipes shall not be stac
46、ked vertically standing on end. Consideration in packaging must be given to preventing compression or extension of the pipes from their specified half-extended lengths during transportation. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWING The drawing shall indicate the type of hose to be used depending upon the method o
47、f clamping selected. Example: MPAPS-1050, Type I Drawings should specify flow direction when flex pipe is used in the assembly. All drawings specifying MPAPS F-1050 flex pipe should include a note in the body of the drawing: “Flex pipe and welded assemblies will meet the quality and performance requ
