4、 prior to use. 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers requirements for oil level gauge tubes and transmission fill tubes. (Note: See MPAPS F-1058 for 1.625-inch diameter oil fill tubes.) 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the requirements for the steel tubing, tube finish, plastic end-cup, and s
5、uppliers responsibility. A general information section is added to provide design guidance. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DO

8、steel tubing depends upon the availability and manufacturing requirements such as formability and weldability. Unless otherwise specified on the individual part drawing, one of the following tubing options are required: Option I Steel Tubing, Grade C-5, MPAPS A-10, Part I Option II Steel Tubing, Gra

JUNE 2016 Page 2 of 6 4.2 Tube Thickness Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing, the nominal tubing wall thickness shall be either 0.71 mm (0.028 in) or 0.89 mm (0.035 in). (See Section A.0, General Information, for guidance on tubing selection and part design.)
11、4.2.1 Thickness Option Heavier tube wall thickness of 1.25 mm and 1.6 mm (0.049 and 0.063 in) may be used, with engineering approval. 4.3 Bend Radius Minimum bend radius shall be 38 mm (1.5 in) for tubing diameter of 19 mm (3/4 in) or less. 4.4 Finish All tubing (assembly) shall be provided to the u
12、sing NAVISTAR facility with the following finish on the outer surface only: Paint per MPAPS G-9009, Class IIC NOTE: Paint was formerly classified as Option I finish. Drawings which still specify finish as Option I will be provided as painted. Finish options II (phosphate coating) and III (zinc plati
13、ng) are no longer used. Drawings requiring finish to be Option II or Option III will be supplied painted. 4.5 Tube Assemblies with Plastic End-Cup The following requirements shall be met for tube assemblies with plastic components. 4.5.1 Plastic Components The end-cup material will be nylon with dry

16、ther material properties) SAE J2527 250 (345) 4.5.2 Adhesive Bonding If the plastic end-cup is adhesively bonded to the steel tube, the bond strength and adhesive properties will meet requirements of MPAPS K-6900, except testing to be done on tube assemblies instead of lap shear samples and torsiona
17、l testing (twisting of the assembly) is to be added. Bond strength values determined from torsional test should correlate favorably with expected lap shear strength values. 20、uirements for Transmission Fill Tubes 4.6.1 Dust/Foreign Debris 4.6.1.1 The transmission fill tube/check (FTC) system will be capable of operating outside the cab exposed to outside elements including, but not limited to: water, oil, grease, dirt, dust, coolant, salt & calcium. 4.6.1.2 The locking c
21、ap prevents water or debris from entering into the transmission. 4.6.1.3 All components should be designed to withstand and maintain function in these environments. 4.6.2 Locking Cap The FTC shall contain a lockable T-Handle cap system that meets the following requirements: 1. Prevents the dipstick
22、assembly from coming out of the fill tube during periods of excessive vibration or pressure surges within the transmission. 2. Capable of withstanding 45 Ft-lbs pull-off pressure (Straight Pull). 3. Capable of withstanding 68.95 kPA (10 psi) of air pressure when inserted and locked in the fill tube.
23、 4. Twist torque falls within a minimum of 5 in-lbs and a maximum of 25 in-lbs throughout the FTC life cycle (5000 cycles). 5. Provides a method of venting during insertion of the gauge assembly. Note: If the T-Handle cap does not meet venting requirements during insertion of the gauge assembly, a v
24、ent hole is required in the fill tube. 6. “Transmission” or symbol specified on Navistar part drawing clearly marked and visible to the operator. 7. Cap shall have a red appearance. 8. Cap shall contain a T-Shaped configuration. 5.0 QUALITY Supplier will ensure that the inside surfaces of all tubing
25、 (assemblies) supplied to this specification are free of burrs, chips, dirt, rust, paint, adhesive or other foreign material. Finished assemblies shall be clean and free of dirt, grease, oils, sharp edges or other defects harmful to product performance. Debris from cutting and processing shall be re
26、moved from plastic parts. Plastic parts shall be free of voids. All tubes shall be capped securely or otherwise protected after cleaning to prevent contamination during shipment and storage. 28、pecification will include the following: 6.1 A detailed, signed test report documenting testing to this specification per MPAPS P-9543. 6.1.1 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation (when appropriate) and condition of the test materials
29、. 6.1.2 A complete description, including engineering prints and pictures of any non-standard test fixtures used. 6.1.3 Adhesive, substrate and any chemicals used for bonding where appropriate. 6.2 Submission The material test report (See Section 6.1) shall be submitted to: Manager of Materials Engi

Samples shall be accompanied by test data certifying that all requirements of the specification have been met. Supplier
31、s shall submit samples for approval of finish, luster, color and appearance to the Navistar Industrial Design Group. Upon approval, styling master samples denoting the minimum level of acceptable appearance quality shall be developed and retained by the supplier and the quality department of each us
32、ing NAVISTAR facility. 6.3 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for products supplied to the requirements of this specification will be established by mutual agreement between NAVISTAR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following characteristics, where applicable*, shal

35、LITY CONTROL 7.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval
36、 requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 7.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all re
37、spects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall no
38、tify NAVISTAR Materials Engineering and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1
39、910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 7.3 Process Control The supplier shall either, perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical c
40、ontrol and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 8.0 SHIPPING AND HANDLING Shipping and identification shall be in accordance wi
41、th NAVISTAR Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13. Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment detrimental to the appearance of the part. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS Part drawings will specify “Material per MPAPS F-1054“ or “Material and Finish per MPAPS F-1054.” Parts should not be paint
42、ed until after any welding or brazing operation, so assembly drawings may specify “Finish per MPAPS F-1054” in these instances. Availability of certain grades is often dependent upon the diameter of the particular tube de
46、sign. Bend radii may dictate whether regular cold finished tubing (MPAPS A-10) is adequate or whether the more formable automotive tubing (MPAPS A-45) is required. A.1 GAGE AND FILLER TUBES USING THE LOCK-N-SEAL DIPSTICK Dipstick and Fill tubes using the Lock-N-Seal Dipstick require a plastic end-cu
47、p that is adhesively bonded to the steel tube. The plastic portion of the Dipstick is inserted into the end-cup on the tube to provide the “lock-and-seal” feature of this assembly. Base requirements for the material used in the end-cup and strength requirements of the adhesive bond, of the end-cup to the tube, are described in this specification.
