5、 Key Words: Insulation, Thermal Insulation, Exhaust Pipe Insulation 1.0 APPLICATION This specification outlines the requirements for exhaust or turbo pipe insulation, which is used as a thermal barrier to retain or exclude thermal energy. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general requirements,

6、 property and performance requirements, quality, qualification, source approval, and quality control for exhaust pipe insulation. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS

7、 B-50 specification. 2.2 Classification NOTE: There are currently only three types of approved piping insulation. Additional types of piping insulation are expected to be identified and added to this specification in the future. 2.2.1 Type I: Blanket Type - Ceramic blanket insulation wrapped with al

8、uminum foil tape and secured at each end with stainless steel clamps. 2.2.2 Type II: Insulation Wrap Ceramic blanket insulation with fiberglass fabric inner layer and laminated aluminum foil/fiberglass outer layer secured around pipe. 2.2.3 Type III: Steel Encapsulated Fiber Mat Stainless steel oute

A-16 ASTM D 751 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Material Requirements 4.1.1 Aluminum Foil Aluminum alloy 1100 foil per CEMS C-10. 4.1.2 Silicon

12、e PSA Silicone PSA shall comply with TMS-6929. 4.1.3 Stainless Steel Stainless steel, Type 321 or 304, per CEMS A-37 4.2 Material Properties (Insulation Fabric) 4.2.1 Fiber Description 4.2.1.1 Ceramic Fabric (Type I and II) - The ceramic insulation shall consist of ceramic fiber spun from high purit

13、y alumina-silica raw materials. 4.2.1.2 Fiberglass Fabric (Type II) The fiberglass inner layer shall consist of asbestos free flexible woven fiberglass fabric. 4.2.1.3 Laminated Aluminum Foil/Fiberglass (Type II) The outer layer shall consist of laminated aluminum foil/fiberglass material. 4.2.1.4 S

14、tainless Steel Shell (Type III) The outer layer shall consist of embossed stainless steel that encapsulates a fiber mat. Stainless steel shell is to be welded to the underlying pipe. 4.2.1.5 Silicate Fiber Needlemat (Type III) The silicate fiber inner layer shall consist of a flexible woven fiber ma

18、nductivity (k value) 4.3.1.1 Method: ASTM C-201 4.3.1.2 Typical: 1.77 BTUin/hrftF at 649o C (1200F) max. (Type I and II for ceramic fabric), 0.92 BTUin/hrftF at 538o C (Type III) 4.3.2 Corrosion/Humidity 4.3.2.1 Testing and performance requirements to be determined. 5.0 QUALITY Workmanship shall be

19、such that each part is provided with a clean surface, neatly trimmed edges, and made in conformance with good manufacturing practices. Defects, which affect the performance of the finished product, shall be cause for rejection. 5.1 Qualification Materials submitted for approval to this specification

20、 shall include the following: 5.1.1 A detailed, signed test report documenting testing to this specification per TMS-9543. 5.1.2 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation (when appropriate) and condition of the test materials. 5.1.3 A com

21、plete description, including engineering prints and pictures of any non-standard test fixtures used. 5.1.4 Adhesive, substrate and any chemicals used for bonding, where appropriate. 5.2 Submission The material test report shall be submitted to: Materials Engineering and Technology Dept. 10400 W. 22、th Ave. Melrose Park, IL 60610 Attn: Manager of Nonmetallic Materials 5.3 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for this product will be established by mutual agreement between NAVISTAR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following characteristics, where applicable*, shal

24、ard A-16. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approva

25、l Process) documentation and approval requirements. AUGUST 2013 Page 4 of 4 maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specifi

27、cation shall be equivalent in all respects to the samples approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required

28、, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering and Purchasing & Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Titl

29、e 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of st

30、atistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing and identi

31、fication shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std. MS-D-13. 8.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS The type insulator shall be specified: Example: TMS-6614, Type I 9.0 APPROVED SOURCE As of the date of this publication, there are no approved suppliers.
