19、plicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Qualification. The soft body armor furnished under this specification shall be produ 3 which are authorized by the qualifying activity for list .g on the applicable qualified products list at the time of
20、 award of contract (see 4.3 and 6.4). Qualification of any one size assembly, under this specification, will automatically qualify a supplier for all sizes specified herein (see 1.2). 3.2 First article. When specified (see 6.2f), a sample shall be subjected to the first article inspection (see 6.5)
21、in accordance with 4.4. 3.3 Materials and components. The materials and components shall conform to applicable specifications, standards, and drawings and shall be as specified herein. Equivalent materials and parts require approval by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Warminster (Code
22、603), Warminster, Pennsylvania 18974-5000. Requests for use of equivalent items shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer. 3.3.1 Ballistic inserts. The ballistic inserts shall be fabricated from ballistic aramid cloth conforming to MIL-C-44050, Type I and Type II (see 3.4.1.2). 3.3.2 Ballistic i
23、nsert covers. The ballistic insert covers shall be fabricated from texture nylon duck cloth conforming to MIL-C-43734, Class 3, Color 106 Olive Green (See 3.4.1.2). 3.3.3 Casins Assemblies. The casing assemblies shall be fabricated from oxford aramid cloth conforming to MIL-C-43842, Class I, Color 1
24、06 Olive Green (see 3.4.1.2). 3.3.4 Webbinqs. 3.3.4.1 Back casinq assembly The side straps for the back casing assembly shall be fabricated from elastic webbing conforming to MIL-W-5664, Type I, Class 1, 2 inch wide. The shoulder straps for the back casing assembly shall be fabricated from nylon web
25、bing conforming to MIL-W-4088, Type XII, Class 2, 1 23/32 inch wide. 3.3.4.2 H-Harness assembly. The side straps for the H- Harness assembly shall be fabricated from nylon webbing conforming to MIL-W-4088, Type VIII, Class I, 1 23/32 inch wide. The shoulder straps for the H-Harness assembly shall be

The hook tape shall be nylon i
27、n accordance with MIL-F-21840, Type II, Class I, 1 and 2 inch wide as specified in 3.4. 3.3.5.2 Pile tape. The pile tape shall be nylon in accordance with MIL-F-21840, Type II, Class I, 1, 2 and 4 inch wide as specified in 3.4. 3.3.6 Snap fasteners. 3.3.6.1 Front and back casinq assemblies. The fron
28、t and back casing assemblies eyelet and stud snap fasteners shall be in accordance with MS27980-8B and MS27980-7B, respectively. 3.3.6.2 Side casinq assembly. The side casing assembly socket and button snap fasteners shall be in accordance with MS27980-6B and MS27980-1B, respectively. 3.4 Desian and
29、 construction. Unless otherwise specified, the design and construction of the soft body armor assembly shall conform to the drawings listed in paragraph 2.1.2 of this specification. 3.4.1a Cut edses. The cut edges of the nylon webbings and tapes, except for the hook and pile fastener tapes, shall be
30、 seared, prior to the fabrication of the soft body armor, to prevent fraying. No sharp edges shall be formed. The cut edges of the nylon duck cloth, except those that are completely covered by nylon binding tape, hook and pile fastener tapes, or are completely encased by the seam construction, shall
31、 be overedged stitched (serged) . 3.4.1.1 Patterns. Standard patterns will be furnished by the Government to the contractor for use in cutting working patterns (see 6.6). The working patterns shall be identical to the Government patterns. Neither the Government patterns nor the working patterns shal
32、l be altered in any way. Seams shall be in accordance with seam allowances specified in 3.4. 3.4.1.2 Component parts. The component parts shall be cut from the material specified, in accordance with the pattern parts in Table I. 3.4.2 Seams and stitchinq. All the seams used in the fabrication of the
33、 soft body armor shall conform to the applicable drawings. Except for the serging (overedge), the stitching shall be accomplished with Stitch Type 301. The overedge stitching shall be accomplished with Stitch Type 502, 503, 504, or 505. The width of the overedge stitching shall be approximately 1/4
34、inch. The thread and stitching used in fabrication shall conform to applicable drawing requirements. All the seam edges shall be properly forced out and shall not contain any folds. 35、05 9999906 I1995793 5T5 MIL-B-29605(AS) shall be twisted, puckered, or pleated and no part of the soft body armor assemblies shall be caught in an unrelated operation or seam. All the thread ends shall be trimmed to a length of 1/4 to 3/8 inch and except for the webbing, cord, and tape, excluding th
36、e binding tape, no raw or cut edge shall be visible on the exterior of the soft body armor assemblies. The cut edges of the binding tape shall be turned under. 3.4.2.1 Sewinq. Each row of stitching shall be straight and parallel to the seam edge. The straightness of the stitching, in any row, shall
37、be maintained within a tolerance of plus or minus 1/32 inch. The ends of the stitching that are not caught in other seams or stitching shall be securely backstitched, by overlapping on themselves, for at least 1/2 inch. Thread breaks, skips, and run-Offs shall be over-stitched not less than one inch
38、. The thread tension shall be maintained so that there shall not be any loose or tight stitching and the lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn together. 3.5 Identification labels. Unless otherwise specified, identification labels shall conform to the requirements of Dwg 3214AS205. 3.5.1 Seria
39、l numbers. The soft body armor shall be identified by individual serial numbers which shall be assigned by the manufacturer. Serialization shall be by a block of consecutive numbers to cover the entire acquisition document quantity. 3.6 Markinqs. Unless otherwise specified, the markings shall be leg
40、ible and durable upper case black letters and Arabic numerals and shall be thoroughly dry prior to packaging. The markings shall be lusterless and the letters and numerals shall be sharply defined. The markings shall be accomplished by using such methods and materials as shall be resistant to erasur
41、e or fading under the condition of usage. The marking medium shall not contain any materials which are deleterious to the substance being marked. 3.7 Color. Unless otherwise specified, the color of the soft body armor and components shall conform to applicable drawing requirements. 3.8 Ballistic Dro
42、tection. When tested as specified in 4.7.1, the soft body armor shall conform to the ballistic protection requirements for Type III-A Armor specified in Section 4, Paragraph 4.5 of National Institute of Justice Standard, NIJ0101.03. 3.9 Visual examination. When visually examined as specified in 4.7.
43、2, the soft body armor shall conform to the requirements of this specification and applicable drawings. Classification of defects for visual examination, shall be used to classify the defects. Table VI, 3.10 Dimensional check. When dimensionally checked as specified in 4.7.3, the dimensions of the a

Table VII, Lis
45、t of defects for dimensions of the soft body armor assemblies, shall be used to enumerate the defects . 3.11 Preparation for delivery. When inspected as specified in 4.7.4, the fully prepared shipping containers, containing soft body armor, shall conform to the requirements of this specification. Ta
46、ble VIII, List of defects for packaging, shall be used to enumerate the defects found. 3.12 Workmanship. After completion of the final assembly, the soft body armor shall be thoroughly cleaned and all loose thread, lint, and foreign matter shall be removed. The snap fasteners shall be clinched witho
47、ut distortion, damage, splitting, or cutting of the cloth, webbing, or tape, as applicable. The metal components shall not be misaligned nor contain any sharp edge, crack, dent, nick, burr, or sliver. The soft body armor assemblies shall not contain any non-specified hole, abraded area, tear, cut, m
48、end, needle chew, spot or stain. Drill holes shall be not greater than 1/16 inch in diameter and shall be covered by the component assemblies. The soft body armor assemblies shall conform to the quality and grade of product established by this specification. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Respo
49、nsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government.
