REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article sample.- Prior to beginning production, a sample shall be tested as specified in 4.3 (see 6.2). 3.2 General requirement.- The equipment shal
11、l be in accordance with MIL-E-16400, as specified herein. Each control equipment shall be suitable for its intended purpose in the Naval communications services, when installed aboard Navy ships and when subjected to the adverse conditions normally encountered in ship- board service. 3.2.1. Material
12、.- All material used in the equipment shall be in accordance with MIL-E-16400 in the following areas, Unacceptable materials, Aluminum, Protection of aluminum and aluminum alloys. 3.2.2. All parts used in the equipment shall be in accordance with MIL-E-16400 in the areas that follow, Selection of pa

14、and test features.- Tests points shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-415. 3.2.4 Tropica1ization.- Tropicalization of the complete control equipment or any part thereof, will not be required. 3.2.5 Blown fuse indicators.- Blown fuse-indicators are not required. 3.2.6 Temp
15、erature.- The equipment shall meet the temperature conditions of class 4 of MIL-E-16400. 3.2.7 Magnetic characteristics.- The equipment shall conform to the applicable requirements of MIL- E-I6400 for Magnetic characteristics. 3.2.8 Safety.- All safety shall be in accordance with requirement 1 of MI
16、L-STD-454. 3.3 Control knobs.- Tactile identification form for the control knobs is not required. The control knob for the earphone level control shall comply with MIL-STD-242. 3.4 Locking device.- A locking device shall be provided for earphone muting control, R-104 (see figure 2). This device shal
17、l be positive in action; the adjustment of the muting control shall not be altered when secured by the locking device; and the locking action shall not be abrogated when the equipment is subjected to shock or vibration. 3.5 Control circuit power.- Power for all relays, control circuits and indicatin
18、g lamps will be obtained from external power sources of 115/220 volts d.c. or 60 cycles, alternating current (a.C.) and 12 volts direct current (d.c.). The specified external power sources are expressed as nominal ratings. 3.6 Cabinet assembly.- The equipment shall be enclosed-in a cabinet assembly
19、provided with a cover hinged at the front bottom edge as depicted on figure 1. The cabinet shall be of aluminum construction, (see 3.2.). 3.6.1 Type of enclosure.- The cabinet assembly for the control equipment shall be totally enclosed in accordance with Table I of MIL-STD-108. 3.6.2 Mechanical des
20、ign.- The mechanical design of the equipment shall conform to MIL-E-16400. The colors of the fasten
21、ers and assembly screws shall conform to MIL-E-16400. -. 3.6.4 Front panel.- The front panel shall be hinged to the bottom edge of the cabinet assembly with a continuous piano“ type hinge, and secured at each top corner with a captive thumb screw. The .heads of the thumb screws shall be slotted for
22、screwdriver tightening or loosening. The hinge pin shall be removable and shall be fabricated from noncorrosive material. The panel shall rotate 180 degrees for its fully open position. The front panel layout shall be as shown on figure 1. 3.6.4.1 The cabling from the front panel to the rear mounted
23、 terminal strips shall be laced, fanned and lugged to enable removal and replacement of the functional part of the equipment for maintenance in a mini- mum of time. 3.6.4.2 Hinge pin removal shall require no special tools. 3.6.5 Cable entrance.- Provision shall be made for the entry of external inte
24、rconnecting cables into any of the four sides (namely top, bottom and both end sides) of the cabinet assembly. Each of the specified sides shall be fitted with removable entry plates that shall individually be capable of accommodating fittings for se- curing one type MSCA-14 cable, in accordance wit
25、h MIL-C-2194, two type TTHFWA-l-1/2 cables and one type TTHEWA-3 cable in accordance with MIL-C-915. The entry plates shall be furnished undrilled for cable fittings. No fittings or cables shall be supplied by the manufacturer of the control equipment. 3.6.6 Internal wiring.- The internal wiring sha
26、ll be type C in accordance with MIL-W-16878. The “STAR-T-STOP“ circuits and keying circuits shall be wired with type C-16 wire. The remaining circuits shall be wired with type C-20 wire. 3.6.7 Terminal boards.- The terminal boards for the connection of external cables, shall be secured to the inside
27、 rear of the cabinet assembly and shall be conveniently accessible when the front panel is in its fully open position. Terminal boards shall conform.with the requirements of MIL-E-16400 and shall provide for the number of marked terminals, shown on figure 2. A separate terminal board bearing termina
28、ls 13 through 20 may be provided, (see figure 2). Terminals 1 through 12 (see figure 2) shall be of sufficient size as to in- dividually accommodate one conductor of a type MSCA cable in accordance with MIL-C-2194. Terminals 13, 141 19, 20, A, B, A, BI Cl D and E (see figure 2) shall be of sufficien
29、t size to individually accommodate one conductor of type TTHFWA cable in accordance with MIL-C-915. The spare terminal dimensions shall be ap- propriate to the foregoing cable conductors. 3.7 Overall dimensions: - Width - 8 inches Depth - 7; inches Height - 59 inches 3.8 Weight.- The weight of the e
30、quipment shall not exceed 10 pounds. 3.9 inclination, shock and vibration.- The control equipment shall be capable of withstanding inclination, shock and vibration as specified in MIL-E-16400 without the use of resilient mounts. 3.10 Parts requirements.- The component parts required for the control
31、equipment and specifically iden- tified herein, shall be selected in accordance with the requirements of 3.2.2 whenever such selection provides electrical and mechanical interchangeability with the individual parts covered by the referenced specifications in 3.10.1. 3.10.1 ,411 parts, except the ter
32、minal strips for external connections, shall be mounted on the front panel, either directly or on a chassis attached to the front panel. The arrangement and mounting of the parts shall afford accessibility for their individual inspection, maintenance, and replacement without damage to other parts wh

43、ted as to pre- clude shock to operating personnel when the contract equipment is operated under adverse climatic conditions aboard ship. 3.10.3 Relays.- The relay (see K-101, figure 2) shall be of such design as to provide reliable operation when the control equipment is subjected to shock and vibra
44、tion and when the relay is connected to an external power source of 12 volts (nominal ratings). The relay shall be capable of providing the foregoing reliability of operation when the external power source falls as low as 8.5 volts. Reliability of operation shall be pred- icated upon normal relay fu
45、nctioning, without sticking or chattering under the foregoing conditions. Addition- ally, the relays shall be capable of continuous operation, without abrogation of its reliability and without dam- age to its coil from over heating, when the external supply voltage is 15 volts d.c. (nominal rating).
46、 3.11 Controls.- Controls shall be considered in two groups: one group designated as operating and one group as semioperating. 3.11.1 Operating controls.- The following controls shall be mounted on the front panel. It shall function to apply or remove power to or from an externally connec
48、ted radio transmitter. The title “TRANSMITTER” shall appear on the front panel below the switch, The top push button shall be black with the subtitle, START” engraved on its face. The lower push button shall be used with the subtitle STOP” engraved on its face. 3.11.1.2 Power indicator.- Indicator l
49、amp, red lens (seeI-101, figure 2) shall be mounted above switch, 5-101 to indicate when power is applied to the externally connected transmitters. The title YPOWER” shall appear on the front panel above the indicator lamp bezel. 3.11.1.3 Carrier-on-indicator.- Indicator lamp, green lens (see 1-102, figure 2) shall be mounted on the front panel to indicate the carrier on condition of the externally connected radio transmitter. The title “CARRIER ON“ shall be arranged above the indicator lamp bezel. 3.1 1.1.4 Earphone level control.- An attenuator (see R-103, figure 2) shall be
