In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification andthe references cited herein (except for related specification sheets), the text of this docum
19、ent shalltake precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulationsunless a specific exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 Specification sheets . The individual item requirements shall be specified herein and inaccordance with the applicable specification
20、 sheet. In the event of any conflict between therequirements of this specification and the specification sheet, the latter shall govern.3.2 Marking format and information . The marking format and information shall be asspecified in the applicable specification sheet. For an application not specifica
21、lly covered by aspecification sheet, the acquiring activity shall specify the legend and the identification devicelocation in the contract or order.3.2.1 Identification plates . Identification plates shall be used on the types of equipmentspecified in the applicable specification sheet. When an iden
22、tification plate cannot be installed dueto the physical size, space, or mounting surface geometry of the end item, the contractor shallpropose a reduced size for the plate, direct marking or other solution to the acquiring activity, inthat order or precedence. The contractor shall include all requir
23、ed marking information, and shalluse the required format and sequencing of the marking information (see 6.2).3.2.1.1 Additional marking information . Additional marking information consists ofinformation that is not required by the contract or order. The information may be addedsometime after initia
24、l manufacture. Types A, B, C, D, F (having a thickness greater than0.03 inch), and H, J, and L identification devices may be permanently stamped with additionalinformation. When additional information is stamped on the plate or tag, the characters shall benot less than 0.003-inch deep unless specifi
25、ed in the specification sheet. Additional markinginformation need not be filled.3.2.2 Information plates . When specified in the contract or purchase order, proposedinformation plates shall be submitted to the acquiring activity (see 6.2).3.2.3 Fillings of markings . Characters on types A, B, and C
26、plates shall be filled with a hardpaint, enamel or lacquer of the color specified (see 6.2). Fillings of markings with paint, enamelor lacquer may be omitted for color styles III, VIII and IX (see table I) if color anodized materialis used. The face of identification devices shall be coated with a m
27、oisture -resistant coating whenmarkings are filled or when preservation of a finish is required. 30、 Characters . Except for identification devices smaller than size 1 in table II, the size ofthe characters shall be not less than 3/32-inch in height. Nomenclature characters shall be not lessthan 3/16-inch in height. MIL-STD-130 provides guidance on characters.3.2.5 Permanency and legibility . Mark
31、ing shall be permanent and legible. MIL-STD-130 isa standard for permanency and legibility.3.3 General physical properties .3.3.1 Materials .3.3.1.1 Materials for identification devices . Identification devices shall be made of a fungusinert material which shall withstand the same environmental and
32、cleaning conditions as the item towhich the device is attached. Paints, fillers, coatings, and adhesives used shall not show anyevidence of fungus. The plate material shall be selected from materials which provide optimumcompatibility with the end item surface over its entire range of operating envi
33、ronments. Flammable materials shall not be used. Recycled, recovered,or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible providedthat the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance
39、requirements, and promoteseconomically advantageous life cycle costs.3.3.2 Color style . The background and character color of the identification device shallcomply with the requirements of the applicable specification sheet and with the color styles intable I (see 6.2). When a color style is not sp
40、ecified for identification devices used on electronicequipment, style III shall be used. The color numbers of FED -STD -595 shall be used as a colorcomparison when anodic coatings and finishes are used other than paint, enamel, lacquer, orvarnish.3.3.2.1 Opacity . The opacity of the paint and ink us
41、ed for marking shall completely coverthe background color.3.3.3 Finishes . All front surfaces shall be matte, satin (line), or semi -gloss, as t he type ofmaterial or finish thereon permits.3.3.3.1 Gloss . The surfaces of non-metallic plates shall have a specular gloss of 25 + 10,except that adhesiv
42、e backed type F plates may be designated as lusterless with a gloss of 6 or less,or gloss with a specular gloss of 40 or more (see 4.3.1.10).3.3.4 Plate size . The size of the identification device shall be as specified in the specificationsheet. When the size is not specified, a size compatible wit
43、h the equipment on which theidentification device will be attached shall be used (see 6.2). For plates with dimensions given intable II, the number, size, and location of mounting holes shall comply with the guidancecontained in table II. Plates using an adhesive for mounting shall not have mounting
44、 holes. Sizesfor type G plates may be other than the sizes given in table II.3.4 Specific physical properties . The following information is provided for guidance inselecting materials used for the different types of identification devices. Where detailspecifications are listed, it is for guidance a
45、nd materials of similar properties may be used.3.4.1 Type A .3.4.1.1 Materials . The following materials are recommended, but are not mandatory:a. Brass.b. Corrosion resistant steel.c. Etched areasshould be filled with the appropriate color (see 3.2.3) Fillings of markings with paint, enamel, orlacquer may be omitted for color anodized aluminum plates meeting color styles III, VIII, and IX.Pl
47、ates that are relief etched (characters in relief) should have a border in relief. Additionalinformation may be permanently stamped.3.4.1.3 Dimensions . Etched areas shall be not less than 0.003-inch deep except that coloranodized plates (which are not filled) should be etched to the depth necessary
48、 to produce clear,legible characters. The thickness of type A plates shall be not less than 0.03 inch.3.4.2 Type B .3.4.2.1 Materials . The following materials are recommended, but are not mandatory:a. Brass.b. Corrosion resistant steel.c. Aluminum alloy.d. Plastic (type NDP opaque and fungus resist
49、ant in accordance with ASTM-D709).3.4.2.2 Marking method . All characters shall be engraved in the plate. Engraving in metalplates shall be filled with the desired color of opaque filler. Additional information may bepermanently stamped except for type B plastic plates. 3.4.2.3 Dimensions . Engraving shall be uniform in depth for characters of the same size. The engraving shall be not less than 0.008-inch deep. In plastic
