REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General. * 3.1.1 All surfaces protected. A

11、 3.1.2 Dimensions of painted components. The dimensions and tolerances of all rocket components required to be painted shall apply prior to the application of the paint coatings. * 3.2 Material. All material used shall comply strictly with the speci- fications and requirements listed herein and with
12、 the specifications and requirements shown on the applicable drawings prior to their use. * 3.3 Surfaces to be painted. The surfaces to be painted shall be those specified in this specification or as indicated on the applicable drawings. Care shall be exercised in controlling the limits of painted a
13、reas in order to prevent the impingement of paint on any surface which may be specified, either herein or on the applicable drawings, to remain unpainted. * 3.4 Surfaces not to be painted. Threads, electrical contact and elec- trical insulation surfaces, seating surfaces, bearing surfaces, bourre- l

The surfaces of steel parts requiring painting shall be cleaned and otherwise prepared for painting in strict accordance with the requir
16、ements of T-C-490. I * 3.5.1.1 Not-go gaging of steel threaded surfaces. Unless otherwise specified, steel threaded surfaces of parts which are to be prepared in accordance with T-C-490 shall comply with not-go thread gaging require- ments before application of phosphate coating in accordance with T
17、T-C-490 and shall comply with all thread gaging requirements after application of phosphate coating. Prior to use of not-go gages, care shall be exercised that threads are clean and free from rust, chips, or other foreign matter. I * 3.5.2 Aluminum surfaces. Surfaces of aluminum parts shall be anodi

All threaded, bearing, and seating surfaces o
21、f metallic components shall be cleaned and prepared for protective treatment the same as specified in 3.5 for surfaces to be painted. Unless otherwise specified in the applicable drawings, protective treatment in accordance with 3.6.1.1, 3.6.1.2, or 3.6.1.3, as applicable, shall then be applied. det

After assembly, care shall be taken th
24、at the detail requirements of TT-C-490 for cleanliness of adjacent surfaces which are to be painted subsequent to assembly are complied with. * 3.6.1.2 Semipermanent assemblies. The mating threaded, bearing, and seating surfaces of metallic components of semipermanent assemblies, as indicated on the
25、 applicable drawings, shall, prior to assembly, be coated with grease conforming to MIL-G-81322. A thin, even, continuous film shall be applied, covering all applicable surfaces. (Semipermanent assemblies are assemblies made by the contractor which are disassembled at ammunition depots or in the fie

Threaded, bearing, and seating surfaces of components not assembled by the con- tractor with mating components shall be coated with bearing grease, MIL-G-81322. A th
28、in, even, continuous film shall be applied, covering all applicable surfaces. 3: 3.6.2 Metallic surfaces other than threaded, bearing, and seating surfaces. Electrical contact, bourrelet, retaining groove surfaces, and the like of metallic components required to remain unpainted shall be cleaned and
29、 prepared for protective treatment the same as specified in 3.5 for surfaces to be painted. Unless otherwise specified, a thin, even, continuous film of rust preventive compound conforming to MIL-C- 16173, grade 2, shall then be applied, covering all applicable surfaces. After cleaning and preparation of surfaces in strict accordance with
35、the appli- cable portions of this specification, all interior metallic surfaces of each rocket head assembly, including the head cavity wall, and the appli- cable surfaces of base plugs, fuze adapters, and fuze liners, which will be in contact with high explosives after the head is loaded, as indica
36、ted on the applicable drawings, shall be completely covered (as evidenced by a dense biack appearance on all areas so specified to be covered) with acid-proof black paint (cavity paint) conforming to NIL-C-450 or MIL-P- 22332. Special precautions shall also be taken that internal cavities of rocket
37、heads are thoroughly purged of all solvent vapors from the cavity paint and that the paint film (MIL-C-450 or LIIL-P-22332) is thor- oughly dry and hard (see 3.16) before the cavity is sealed for shipment as specified on the applicable drawings. 3.8 cives. rocket - .2 Metallic surfaces in contact wi

39、hall not be painted. 3.8.2.1 Steel surfaces. Immediately after cleaning and surface prepara- tion, the applicable steel surfaces shall be protected against subsequent corrosion by inserting a 4-ply tube of material conforming to MIL-P-3420 and immediately sealing the cavity securely by means of the
40、blugs or other closures as specified in the applicable drawings. Unless otherwise specified, the tube shall be 0.750 f 0.0625 inch O.D. and 0.012 inch minimum wall thickness, with length as specified in the applicable draw- ings. Except as specified above, the general requirements of MIL-1-8574 shal

The applicable metallic surfaces other than steel shall be treated as specified in the applicable drawings or as spe
42、cified by the procuring activity. 3.8.3 Nonmetallic surfaces. Surfaces of nonmetallic components intended to be in contact with high explosives after the head is filled shall be painted as specified for metallic surfaces in 3.8.1. 3.9 Painting of rocket heads and component parts thereof, exterior su
43、rfaces. * 3.9.1 Metallic surfaces. Exterior metallic surfaces of rocket head assemblies and accessories, such as shipping plug and thread protectors, required to be painted as indicated on the applicable drawings, after having been cleaned and prepared for painting in accordance with the appli- cabl
44、e portions of this specification, shall be painted with one coat of zinc chromate primer conforming to TT-P-1757 followed by one cover coat of semi-gloss enamel conforming to MIL-E-16663. primer shall be not less than 0,0003 inch and not more than 0.0007 inch. Dry-film thickness of the enamel shall
45、be not less than 0.001 inch. Dry-film thickness of the 3.9.1.1 Exterior surfaces of rocket heads to contain explosive. For rocket heads which are to be used with high explosive fillers only, i.e., for those rocket heads in which the interior surfaces are coated with cavity paint in accordance with 3
46、.8.1, the exterior surfaces of the detail piece which has the cavity paint coating shall, unless otherwise specified by the procuring activity, be coated with primer only in accor- dance with 3.9.1, omitting the final enamel cover coat. The exterior surfaces of accessories for these heads, such as s
47、hipping plugs and thread protectors, shall, unless otherwise specified, be completely painted with primer and cover coat in accordance with 3.9.1, CAUTION: Since the rocket heads are to be painted subsequently with the final cover coat by the loading depot, after high explo- sive loading, special pr
48、ecaution shall be taken that the prime coated surfaces of the rocket heads are free from grease, dirt, or any other contamination which would prevent firm adhesion of the final cover coat to the prime coated surfaces. .K 3.9.2 Color of final coating. The color of the final coating shall be in accord
