This specification covers requirements for mtal individual automobile plates and attachable metal emblem and stars. 1.2 Classification. Individual autombile plates shall be of the following type

After fabrication, the surfaces of the plates shall be visibly flat, and free from sucface recesses, protrusions, or
14、other imperfections which might afect the smoothness, appearance, or serviceability of the enamel. Al1 edges of the plate (including the holes), star and emblem shall be trimd so as to be 3.4.1 Plate construction. Before painting, the plates shall be clean, and all surfaces and edges shall be smooth
15、 and free of sharp corners. !he plates shall be surface prhd with the white paint and enameled with the red paint specified in 3.3.1.2. All surfaces and edges of the plates shall be completely and evenly mated with the paint in such a mnner that a smoth uniform film will be produced. The film shall
16、be uniform in color without objectionable orange peel, runs, wrinkles, drops, streaks, or areas of thin or no film, and shall be Eree of bubbles or foreign inclusions or other defects which may affect appearance or serviceability, a clean, smooth and free from drag and step. 3.4.2 -lem and star cons

21、1 IC (MC) 3.4.2.3 Plating. Zhe finished emblem castings, before plating, shall be free frm pits, holes, and nicks, and pnperly buffed and polished to a mirror-like finish, degreased, and cleaned. Elnblem castings shall be first plated with nickel, recleaned, and then plated with rhodium. All plating
22、 shall be continuous and nonporous with no indication of cut-thrwgh, blistering, or peeling. The nickel plating shall be not less than 0.0003 inch in thickness. !he rhodium plating shall be not less than 1 gram per 1,000 square inches of surface. For the purpose of this specification, the emblem cas
23、tings shall be ansidered properly plated when tested as specified in Section 4, Table PII. The star casting shall conform to requirements specified in w-320. 3.4.2.4 Cork backing for star. Each star shall be provided with a mrk backing, 1/16 inch minimum thickness. Ihe backing shall be star shaped,
24、measuring 1-5/8 to 1-3/4 inches from point to point and shall not extend beyond edges o the star. Trie mrk shall be securely adhered to the back of the star with a water-resistant adhesive. 3.5 Government-loaned property. A standard moel of the emblem will be loaned to the contractor by the Governme

The Government furnished starklard del shall be used only for making the contractors wrking molds, Upon oonp?letion of the contract, the standard niode1 shall be returned to a point designated by the contracting officer. The mntractor shall be responsible for the loss, damage, or nutilation of t
