32、Decification sheets. The individual item requirements shall be as specified herein and in accordance with the applicable specification sheet. In the event of any conflict between the requirements of this specification and the specification sheet, the latter shall govern. 3.2 First article. When spec
33、ified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.3 yatertals. Materials shall be as specified (see 3.1). The contractor may select any material that will satisfactorily perform the intended function in the equipment and will otherwise compl
34、y with the requirements of this specification (see 6.2). . 3.3.1 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-889. 3.3.2 Mercury. Mercury in any fob shall not be used in shipboard equipment, including materials and parts thereof. Mercury shall not be used in manufacturing
35、 and test processes (including test equipment. such as mercury indicators) applying to the basic equipment; but may be used in the manufacturing and test processes for materials and parts provided it is used in such a way that the materials and parts themselves cannot be contaminated. No instruments
36、 containing mercury shall be used in the manufacture of testing of any equipment destined for installation on a nuclear powered ship. 3.3.3 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equipment, material, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this specification shall b
37、e new and may be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw mate
38、rials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. The stuffing tubes, packing assemblies, and accessories (fitters and dummy plugs) shall be of the design, construction, and physical dimensions as specified (see 3.1). 3.4.1 Small miscellaneous hardware. Miscellaneous hardware s
40、uch as screws and attachment chains shall be of a good comercial grade, corrosion-resistant or protected against corrosion. Self - tapping screws or other self - tapping devices shall not be used in the assembly of components. 3.4.2 meads. Unless otherwise specified, threads shall be unified form (U
41、N), class 2A or 2B as specified in FED-STD-H28 and FED-STD-H28/2. The nominal site and threads per inch shall be as specified in the applicable specification sheet. 3.4.3 Gland nuts. Gland nuts may be machined from wrought material or cast with an octagon-shaped head. 3.4.4 Castinszs Cast components
42、, such as split-type stuffing tube bodies or gland nuts, shall. be free from cold shuts, blow holes, or any other imperfections that may in any way affect the strength or serviceability of the casting.
