SCOPE “1.1 This specification covers one type portable, self contained send/receive teletypewriter set, consisting of a keyb

The teletypewriter set described herein is a man-transportable teletypewriter communications set complete, except for transmission media (such a

19、s wires or frequency-shift keying units) and primary power source. The equipment shall provide 72 characters- per-line page copy, with text consisting of the standard communications alpha-numeric-punctuation alphabet in accordance with MIL-STD-188. The equipment shall be capable of being modified to

20、 provide 76 characters per line when copy consists of standard weather text. supply shall be in the form of a self-contained roll, to and including 5 inches in diameter and 8-1/2 inches in width or 8-1/2-inch fan-fold paper when case, CY-2977A/UG, is used. The equipment shall provide for optional su

21、pply of signal line battery in the send and receive and send or receive circuits by shifting of pin jacks. shall be capable of being positioned in a send or stowage position, or removed completely, without the use of tools. All connections shall be made through a single service cable. Different cabl

22、es shall be used for alternating current (ac) and direct current (dc) applications. The teletypewriter set shall be capable of operating on 115 volts (V), 60 hertz (Hz), 1 phase ac or 115 V, 400 Hz, 1 phase ac, primary power sources with only a change of motor. Equipments shall operate on signal lin

23、es ranging in value from 1 milliampere (mA) to 5 mA and from 20 mA to 80 mA with no manipulations other than positioning a single strap. At least eight teletypewriter sets shall be capable of operating on the same signal line with only one teletypewriter set supplying the line battery for the loop.

24、The set shall transmit and receive 7.0 unit, five level, serial baudot code, and shall be capable of operation over radio or wire channels. The teletypewriter set shall be capable of operating in any of the following modes with only simple operator-made patches required to change from one mode to an

Internal construction shall provide for flow of heating and cooling air. All major component

27、s shall be mounted on the chassis so as to permit quick removal for repair or replacement. Termination of signal lines at the equipment shall be by means of binding posts mounted on a junction box contained in the service cable. The service cable shall be connected to the teletypewriter set through

28、an access port in the rear. Equipment shall be constructed so that connection to an incorrect power source shall not result in damage to the equipment. Protection for incorrect power source connections may consist, in part, of proper fusing . “3.3.1 Cases. The teletypewriter set shall be mounted in

29、a rugged, watertight, transit case, CY-2976A/PGt Case, Teletypewriter (Tactical) or CY-2977A/UGt Case, Teletype- writer (Non-Tactical) as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2) . *3.3.1.1 Case, Tactical, CY-2976A/PG0 This case shall be designed to fasten together (front-half and rear half) to

30、form a watertight unit in accordance with MIL-STD-108. The rear half shall contain a chassis on individual roller slides, so that the chassis may be pulled out for replace- ment of paper rolls and ribbons, changing speed, and maintenance. Positive acting locks for the chassis slides shall be provide

31、d, which may be released, to permit slide extension, chassis removal and installation without the use of too1.s. Removal of all or part of the front cover to pull out the chassis is permissible, providing the front cover may be removed without the use of tools. The case shall be provided with approp

32、riate carrying handles mounted above the center of gravity. The case shall be constructed so that positioning of the keyboard and insertion of the service cables shall be all that is required to place the teletypewriter set in operation. The keyboard shall be capable of being positioned in a send or

33、 stowed position, or removed completely without the use of tools. Three connectors shall be provided on the teleprinter for use with the magnetic selector motor connections, and time delay motor stop circuitry. “3.3.2.2 Mechanical linkaqe. The teleprinter shall

43、require no mechanical linkages from any other portion of the equipment, but shall be capable of supplying motive power for the keyboard through a printer-to-keyboard gear. Mating of this gear shall be entirely automatic, requiring only insertion of the keyboard into the chassis cavity. *3.3.2.3 Oper

44、ational features. The teleprinter shall have the following operational features. “3.3.2.3.1 Method of printinq. The teleprinter shall employ a type cylinder or similar device located behind the recording medium so that a neutral position or space is not required in order to render visible the last c

45、haracter printed. The printing mechanism shall

46、 have a printing capability of 64 characters, i.e., those comprising the standard communications alphabet. For standard equipments, however, printing shall be suppressed for the following characters: iiLTRSll, “FIGS“ “BLANK“ , “SPACE“ TARRIAGE RETURNII “LINE FEED“ and I BELL . Pica type, nominally 1
