In the selection of parts and materials, fulfillment of major design objectives shall be the prime consideration. In all cases, general
、 matercial requirements as to nonflammability, fungus resistance, and nontoxicity as required by MIL-E-16400 must be met. In doing so, the following factors shall govern: 3.2.1 Electronic components. Parts and materials listed in MIL-E-16400 shall be given first consideration, When use of parts or m
、aterials in accordance with MIL-E-16400 will not fulfill the design objective because of size, weight, performance, or other reasons, the use of other materials may take precedence, with the approval of the contracting officer. 3.2.2 Mechanical components. MIL-E-16400 shall be complied with, wheneve
、r possible, without sacrifice of the design objectives of size, weight, performance, reliability and ease of maintenance. Where mechanical parts whose function is to rotate, oscillate or cam against others are employed, and best choice of materials comprises materials other than those listed in MIL-
、E-16400, use of those materials may take precedence, with the approval of the contracting officer, provided that maximum life is achieved by use of lubricating agents, protective paints or sprays or other methods. 3.2.3 Moisture and funqus treatment. The teletypewriter set shall be fungusproofed by
、selection of parts and materials which are nonnutrient for fungus or by treatment of the parts and materials prior to their use in the teletypewriter set so that overall spraying of the teletypewriter set is not necessary.
