2、straints and a past history of success with a specific commercial vendor the Project decided to reduce the amount of in-house Quality Assurance (QA) activities. Thus, there was a reduction of QA with regard to items the Project owed the vendor (design drawings) and deliverables the vendor owed the P

3、roject (hardware). Unfortunately, this reduction of in-house QA combined with the unknowns associated with one-of-a-kind or cutting edge technology lead to problems being discovered late and/or items having to be accepted with waivers for non-conformance.Lesson(s) Learned: Despite having a successfu

4、l track record with certain vendors it is still necessary to include in-house QA to ensure the quality of items exchanged between the Project and the vendor. This becomes critical when one-of-a-kind or cutting edge technology is involved. Thus, the resources devoted to QA must match the risk and cri

5、ticality of the hardware being developed and manufactured.Recommendation(s): Allow extra time for design, review, manufacture and testing of one-of-a-kind and cutting edge parts. While Quality Assurance (QA) is always important, it becomes critical when dealing with the development of unique or limi
