2、e the importance of the Projects research results to its industry and military customers, it had little visibility or advocacy within the NASA community. This environment may have contributed to budget cuts resulting in milestone de-scoping and cancellations of scheduled reviews the Project suffered

In addition to a lack of success in promoting the Project to NASA Senior Management, the Project had difficulty sharing information rapidly and effectively with its out-of-Agency partners and customers. At the time the Project and its parent Program were suddenly and unexpectedly cancelled, a web
4、site was created to summarize the Program and Projects research results, contributions and successes. The web site became a much-needed and used communication vehicle between the Project and its customers, and in addition it documented Project achievements in formats convenient to present to Senior
5、Management. Several users suggested that such a web site should have been mounted at the beginning of the project instead of at the end in order to facilitate rapid communication to all the interested parties.Lesson(s) Learned: Lack of project promotion to upper management and inadequate or slow com
6、munication of project results can result in an inaccurate appraisal of a projects value to its customers. High visibility and timely communication increase a projects opportunities for recognition and gaining/maintaining support. Low visibility and slow communication may increase a projects vulnerab

Mechanisms and schedules for accomplishing these functions should take into account the diversity and requirements of each audience. Project management could also use various venues (i.e., open house activities, professional colloquia, and public outreach) in addition to standard reviews and presentation
