SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of extruded bars, rods, wire, profiles, and tubing up to 2.999 inches, incl (76.17 mm, incl) in thickness, nominal diameter or wall thickness
7、with cross-sectional area 25 in2 (161 cm2) and under (see 8.5). 1.2 Application These extrusions have been used typically for structural parts requiring high strength up to 500 F (260 C) after proper precipitation heat treatment and which may require welding during fabrication, but usage is not limi
8、ted to such applications. 1.2.1 Certain design and fabricating procedures may cause extrusions in the specified condition to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking; ARP823 recommends practices to minimize such conditions. 2. Solution heat treatment shall be performed in accordance with AMS2772. 3.2.1 Extrusions may receive minor straightening, after stretching, of an amount necessary to meet the requirements of 3.5. 3.2.2 Extrusions shall be supplied with an
18、 as-extruded surface finish; light polishing to remove minor surface imperfections is permissible provided such imperfections can be removed within specified dimensional tolerances. 3.3 Properties Extrusions, under 3.00 inches (76.2 mm) in thickness, nominal diameter or wall thickness for tubing, wi

25、rrosion Resistance (T82) Specimens, cut from extrusions 0.750 inch (19.05 mm) and over in thickness, nominal diameter or wall thickness, shall exhibit no evidence of stress-corrosion cracking when stressed in the short-transverse (perpendicular to grain flow) direction to 30.0 ksi (207 MPa) when tes
26、ted in accordance with ASTM G47. 3.3.3 Mechanical property requirements for product outside of the range covered by 1.1 shall be agreed upon between purchaser and producer. 3.4 Quality Extrusions, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign mater
27、ials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the extrusions. 3.4.1 When specified, extrusions shall be subjected to ultrasonic inspection in accordance with ASTM B594. Extrusions 0.50 inch (12.7 mm) and over in thickness, nominal diameter or wall thickness, not exceeding 600 pounds (272 kg) p
28、er piece in weight, or a 10-to-1 width-to-thickness ratio, shall meet ultrasonic Class B. 3.5 Tolerances Shall conform to all applicable requirements of ANSI H35.2 or ANSI H35.2M except that surface roughness tolerances shall be double those specified therein. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of extrusions shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessar
30、y to ensure that the extrusions conform to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), longitudinal tensile properties as solution heat treated and stress relieved (3.3.1.1), longitudinal tensile properties after precipitation heat treatment (3.3.2.1
31、.1), ultrasonic inspection when specified (3.4.1), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and, except for composition, shall be performed on each inspection lot. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Long-transverse tensile properties (3.3.2.1.2) and stress-corrosion resistance (3.3.2.2) after precipitation heat
32、treatment are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2355. 4.4 Reports The producer of extrusions shall furnish with each shipment a report stating th
33、at the extrusions conform to the chemical composition, ultrasonic inspection when specified, and tolerances and showing the numerical results of tests on each inspection lot to determine conformance to the other acceptance test requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspe
34、ction lot number, AMS4163F, size or section identification number, and quantity. The report shall also identify the producer, the product form, and the size of the mill product. 4.4.1 When the product size is outside the range covered by 1.1, the report shall contain a statement to that effect. 4.4.
35、2 When material produced to this specification, is beyond the sizes allowed in the scope or tables or other exceptions are taken to the technical requirements listed in Section 3 (see 5.1.1), the report shall contain a statement “This material is certified as AMS4163F(EXC) because of the following e
36、xceptions.” and the specific exceptions shall be listed. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2355. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accordance with ASTM B666/B666M. 5.1.1 When technical exceptions are taken (see 4.4.2), the material shall be marked w
37、ith AMS4163(EXC). 38、ce and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Extrusions not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to

Further analysis, including material composition verification, heat treat process parameter review, and/or te
