All other section numbers have changed accordingly.Having a standardized method of evaluating the speed capability of tires is

5、useful in selecting appropriate tires formotor vehicles. This SAE Recommended Practice provides a laboratory method for determining the speedcapability of passenger car tires under controlled conditions. The procedure is intended to provide a way of testingtires and gathering data on a uniform basis

6、.1. ScopeThis SAE Recommended Practice provides a method for testing the speed performance ofpassenger car tires under controlled conditions in the laboratory on a test wheel. This procedure applies to“standard load,” “extra load,” and “T-type high-pressure temporary-use spare” passenger tires.2. Re

Definitions3.1 Ambient TemperatureThis is the temperature of the air measured during a high-speed test at a fixedlocation near the tire. The fixed location of ambient temperature measurement is defined as a point on therotational axis

8、of the tire, 0.31 m (12 in) from the plane touching the nearest tire sidewall (or at a point wherean equivalent temperature exists).3.2 Bead SeparationA breakdown of the bond between components in the bead area.3.3 Capped Inflation PressureThe process of inflating the tire to a specified pressure an

9、d allowing the inflationpressure to build up, as the tire temperature increases during the test procedure.3.4 ChunkingThe breaking away of pieces of the tread or sidewall.3.5 Cord SeparationThe parting of cords from adjacent rubber compounds.3.6 CrackingThe parting within the tread, sidewall, or inn

Test Equipment4.1 Test Wheel Specifications4.1.1 DIAMETERThe diameter of the standard test wheel used for the high-speed test is 1.708

15、 m (67.23 in). Anoptional test wheel of 2.0 m (78.74 in) diameter may be used with the alternate operation specified in 6.2.1.4.1.2 WIDTH OF THE T EST SURFACEThis must exceed the tread width of the test tire.4.1.3 OUTER SURFACESmooth steel.4.2 Test RimIt must have a contour and width as specified by

Test Procedure6.1 Thermal ConditioningConditio

22、n the tire/wheel assembly at test room temperature for not less than 3 h.Readjust the inflation pressure to that specified in 5.2.6.2 Operation (1.708 m Diameter Standard Test Wheel)The tire and wheel assembly shall be mounted on thetest axle and pressed normal to the outer face of the test wheel wi

23、th the test load. Carry the test throughwithout interruption, as follows:a. Time taken to pass from zero speed to the initial test speed 10 minb. Initial test speed is the speed category of the tire less 40 km/h (24 mph). For tires which do not have aspeed category, the initial test speed shall be 1

24、10 km/h (68 mph).c. Duration at initial test speed 10 mind. Successive speed increments 10 km/h (6 mph)e. Duration at each speed step 10 minf. Duration at the speed category step 10 min6.2.1 ALTERNATE OPERATION (2.0 m DIAMETER OPTIONAL T EST WHEEL)This operation is the same as 6.2 except:a. Initial

25、test speed is the speed category of the tire less 30 km/h (18 mph). For tires which do not have aspeed category, the initial test speed shall be 120 km/h (75 mph).b.
