DEFINITIONS 3.1 OPEN TO THE ATMOSPHERE Refers to a space or compartment that has at least 96.8 cm2(15 in2) of open area directly exposed to the atmosphere for each cubic foot 0.0283 cu. m. (1 cubic ft.) of net compartment volume. 3.
8、2 VENTILATION The changing of air within a compartment by natural means. Ventilation may be affected by dilution of contaminated air, by introduction of fresh air, or by local exhaust of contaminated air. 9、4 m (13 ft) in length which uses an internal combustion engine powering a water jet pump as its primary source of propulsion, and is designed to be operated by a person or persons sitting, standing, or kneeling on, rather than within, the confines of a hull. 3.4 NORMAL ACCUMULATION OF BILGE WATER Mi
10、nor amounts of water collecting in the bilge from spray, rain, seepage and spillage that can be removed by bilge pumps. The height of the normal accumulation of bilge water is below the lowest part of the engine, OR, measured at the top of the bilge pump inlet or the bilge pump automatic float switc

REQUIREMENTS FOR VENTILATION Personal watercraft shall have a ventilation system which meets the requirements of this section. 4.1 Ventilation means an airflow in a compartment in a personal watercraft achieved by having: a. A supply opening or duct from the atmosphere or from a ventilated com
12、partment that is open to the atmosphere; and b. An exhaust opening into another ventilated compartment or an exhaust duct to the atmosphere. 4.2 Each exhaust opening or exhaust duct must originate in the lower third of the compartment. 4.3 The two openings shall be separated by one of the following
13、methods. a. Located at the fore and aft sides of the engine compartment. b. On opposite sides of the watercraft. c. Fitted with cowls which are pointed in opposite directions. 4.4 Each supply opening or supply duct and each exhaust opening or exhaust duct in a compartment must be above the normal ac
14、cumulation of bilge water. 4.5 The minimum internal cross-sectional area of each supply opening or duct and exhaust opening or duct must exceed 194 cm2(3.0 in2). 4.6 Ventilation shall be supplied to any compartment not open to the atmosphere and containing either a gasoline powered engine or a non-m
15、etallic fuel tank. 5.
