5、elected inch screws, hex bolts, and nuts manufactured in accordance with SAE and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) fastener standards. Appendix A covers bolt blanks to manufacture fitted bolts of specific materials. This document covers fastener materials often used in ship systems a

6、nd equipment but its use may be applied wherever fasteners of the covered materials are used. This document permits the fasteners to be identified and ordered by a part or identifying number (PIN) as defined in this document. 1.1 Purpose The purpose of this document is to assist the designer and oth

7、er personnel by providing requirements and part identifying numbers for the most commonly used fasteners for ship systems and equipment. A part or identification number (PIN) is normally required for all military applications and provides a useful means of communicating fastener requirements to supp

8、liers and manufacturers in a very succinct manner. 1.2 Fastener Part Numbers This document provides part or identifying numbers that can be used to identify socket head cap screws, hex head cap screws, and bolts and hex nuts for the parts covered by this document. The parts covered by this document

9、are to be manufactured in accordance with fastener standards issued by the SAE and ASTM. The part identification number (PIN) identifies material, material strength, coatings and special features, nominal diameter, thread configuration, fastener length, marking requirements, along with the applicabl

10、e ASTM or SAE fastener specification. Ni-C

11、r-Mo-Cb (UNS N06625) is added for high temperature applications. Copper Alloy Brass 260 (UNS C26000) is added to provide a cold heading grade. Bolt blanks are added to reduce machining waste for shipbuilders and repair activities. Continuous threaded cap screws are added for energy absorption applic

12、ations and also as an option where fit ups vary. SAE J429 and J995 Grade 2 steels are added to primarily support existing applications and are not recommended for new design. A note on galling is added to provide guidance when selecting aluminum, titanium, nickel alloys and austenitic CRES. CRES all

13、oys updated to list those which are listed in referenced product standards. Designators have been added for pigmented overcoats for Zinc/Aluminum coatings. 2. Fastener Part or Identifying Numbers 3.1 SAE Fastener Part Standards Thi

31、s SAE part standard is for fasteners manufactured to ASTM and SAE fastener standards in accordance with the requirements defined herein. ASTM has issued many fastener standards but generally has not established part or identifying numbers for fasteners to these standards. When using the ASTM or SAE

32、standards, it is necessary to identify the applicable dimensional configuration, coating requirements, and supplemental quality assurance requirements. This SAE part standard provides for the identification of many frequently used fasteners by identifying the applicable dimensional, coating, and oth

33、er special features with simple part identifying numbers that can be easily recognized by both manufacturers and users. 3.2 Part or Identifying Numbers (PINs) for Selected FastenersPINs are provided herein for selected bolts, cap screws, and hex nuts for the purpose of common logistics parts identif

34、ication between designers, builders, repair activities, and equipment operators. Part numbers are provided for only those fastener configurations and materials most likely to be needed. Industry or military specifications and standards with part numbers already exist for many types of fasteners and

35、therefore part numbers to cover similar fasteners in this standard have usually not been developed. 3.2.1 PINS FOR SCREWS AND BOLTS Figure 1 provides part or identifying numbers for hex and socket head screws and bolts in accordance with selected ASTM and SAE product standards. See Appendix A for de

36、tails on bolt blanks to manufacture fitted bolts. Table 1 is a listing of the standards with the selected materials identified for inch screws and bolts.
