Under circumstances such as those described in 1.1.1 above, submit a list of occupiers and a suitable number of circular letters to the employer with a request that he obtain permission for a contractor to enter

、 onto each erf to carry out the work. Draft the circular letters in such a manner that no diff.culties or delays will occur when the contractor delivers the notices reierred to in Subclause 5.2.1 of SABS 1200 LF. Tenders. 12、rials specified in Subclause 3.1 of SABS 1200 LF, ensure that the schedule states clearly the material to be used for the pipes and fittings of erf connections. Where, lecause of the presence of corrosive soils or of risks of spillage in certain industries, more expensive materials are required, set

、 out the requirements in the project specification (see Subclause 2.l(a) of Section LF of Part 2 of the code). Meters (Subclauses 3.2.2, 5.7.2, and 7.3). Except in the case of new townships, local and other authorities usually prefer to specify and/or supply meters of a make and type already in use

、in other areas under their control, in order to simplify maintenance and reading pxocedures. Where this is the case a) take action as set out in Subclause 3.2.4 of Section A of Part 2 of the code; b) include in the project specification a clause that will relieve the contractor of responsibility in

、terms of Subclauses 3.2.2 and 7.3.1 (but not 7.3.2) of SABS 1200 LP and that will suitably amend Subclause 0.2.4 of SABS 1200 LE. (See also Suhclause 2.2 of Section LF of Part 5 of the code.) C) Typically, in addition to providing the data required in terms of Subclause l.l(d) of Section LF of Part

、2 of the code, a domestic meter (other than a digital display meter) may be specified as follows: Domestic meters shall be of the semi-positive type, shall have a rotary piston and a dry dial or a sealed liquid-filled head, shall be of a cyclometer pattern, and shall conform to the regulations gover

、ning water meters published in terms of the Trade Metrology Act, 1973 (Acg 77 of 1973). The meters shall be suitable for operating with water at temperatures of up to 50 C and at working pressures of up to 1,0 MPa. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS GENERAL PROJECTS Polyethylene Pipes (Subclause 3.1.4). Polyet-hyl

、ene pipes are flexible and, provided that the diameter does not exceed 50 mm, are suitable for house connecti.ons. Type 11 Class 12 polyethylene pipes with positive clamping metal couplings are frequently specified or scheduled but it is considerably more economical to use Type IV (i.e. high density

、) pipes of the same class with polypropylene compression fittings. Note, however, that between Type 11 and Type IV pipes of the same nominal diameter there is a considerable difference in actual inside diameters. This affects the comparison of the costs of the piping and of the outlet ferrules. Adva

、ntages of Radiused Erf Connections (Subclauses 5.2.2 and 5.2.3). Because an erf connection is a flexible pipe of relatively small bore, the small but rigid fitting that joins it to the supply main is liable to be damaged by careless handling or movement of the erf connection, or by settlement of the

、 erf connection or the strata below it. Risk of such damage occurring is greatest if the erf connection is taken off at right angles to t.he main. The risk is reduced by the introduction of a long bend (of a radius that can readily be formed in the pipe) into the erf connection, as shown on Drawing

、LP-3.2. Such a bend may be specified as an alternative or in additi.on to the 2 m of flexible pipe required in terms of Subclause 5.2.3.1 of SABS 1200 LF. Maintenance of reticulation systems necessitates the opening up of ferrule connections and, unless erf connections have been constructed to a reg

、ular pattern, the location of the connections is unnecessarily time consuming. Therefore, where the use of radiused service connections has been adopted for any particular township, all such service connections should be constructed with bends of the same radius and with the flow in the same directi
