11、. 22 SANS 1849:2008 Edition 1.1 2 This page is intentionally left blank SANS 1849:2008 Edition 1.1 3 Butterfly valves for general purposes 1 Scope This standard specifies requirements for size, rating, design, materials, marking and preparation for transport and storage of double flanged and wafer t

12、ype butterfly valves with nominal pressure up to PN 40 and up to class 300, in the nominal size (DN) range of DN 40 to DN 2000. It also specifies test requirements for pressure testing, fire-tested designs and anti-static designs, and gives methods for pressure testing. NOTE This standard does not c

13、over the installation of butterfly valves. Strict compliance with the instructions of the manufacturer is, however, necessary during installation. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. 24、 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions apply: 3.1 agreed agreed on in writing between the manufacturer and the purchaser SANS 1849:2008 Edition 1.1 5 3.2 face-to-face dimensions distance between the two planes perpendicular to the body bore axis located at the extr

25、emities of the body end ports. Where a liner extends over the end faces and acts as a gasket, the face-to-face dimension is inclusive of the double thickness of the liner (i.e. the thickness over each face) when in the installed (i.e. compressed) condition 3.3 double flanged valve having flanged end

26、s for connection to pipe flanges by individual bolting 3.4 wafer valve primarily intended for clamping between pipe flanges using through bolting NOTE Some types of wafer valves may be suitable for individual bolting (see clause 4). 3.5 nominal pressure (PN) numerical designation representing the wo

27、rking pressure of the valve and which is a convenient round number for reference purposes. All equipment of the same nominal size (DN) designated by the same PN number shall have compatible mating dimensions NOTE 1 The maximum allowable working pressure depends upon materials, design and working tem

28、peratures and should be selected from the “pressure/temperature rating“ tables in the appropriate standards. NOTE 2 Nominal pressure is designated by the letter PN followed by the appropriate reference number. 3.6 nominal size (DN) numerical designation of size which is common to all components in a

29、 piping system other than components designated by outside diameters or by thread size. It is a convenient round number for reference purposes and is only loosely related to manufacturing dimensions 3.7 tight shut-off valve valve having no visible leakage past the disk in the closed position 3.8 low

30、-leakage-rate valve valve which has a specified maximum leakage rate past the disk in the closed position 3.9 regulating valve valve intended for regulating purposes, and which may have a clearance between the disk and the body in the closed position 4 Requirements 4.1 Types Valves shall be one of t

31、he following types, as specified (see A.1(a) and with metal or resilient seatings or linings: a) double flanged type (see figure 1); SANS 1849:2008 Edition 1.1 6 b) wafer type: 1) single flange (see figure 2); 2) flangeless (see figure 3); 3) U-section (see figure 4); or c) other types of valves, sh

32、ouldered, socketed, etc., whose end connections (double spigotted) shall be as agreed on (see A.2(a). NOTE 2 This type of valve may be suitable for terminal connections. 4.2 Nominal size range The nominal sizes (DN) for PN designated valves and the nominal pipe sizes for class designated valves shall be as given in table 1 and shall be as s

35、pecified (see annex A.1(b). 4.3 Nominal pressure and class designations 4.3.1 General The pressure designation required for a valve shall be as specified by the purchaser in accordance with annex A.1(c). 4.3.2 Nominal pressure (PN) designations The nominal pressure (PN) designations for valves speci

36、fied by nominal size DN shall be: PN 6, PN 10, PN 16, PN 25, PN 40. SANS 1849:2008 Edition 1.1 8 4.3.3 Class designations The class designations for valves specified by nominal pipe size shall be: class 125, class 150, class 300. NOTE The class designations of valves are numbers representing the pri

37、mary pressure service values of the valves in lb/in2. 38、2 000 4.4 Pressure/temperature ratings The pressure/temperature ratings shall be as given in table 2 or table 3, except where restrictions on upper temperature are placed by the manufacturer on valves by reason of valve type, trim materials or other factors. In this case, valves shall be marked with

39、 the limiting temperature (see 6.2(c). NOTE The service conditions under which a valve is to be used shall be as specified by the purchaser in accordance with annex A.1(d). NOTE Face-to-fac

42、e dimensions shall be as specified by the purchaser in accordance with annex A.1(f). 4.5.1.3 Tolerances on face-to-face dimensions Tolerances on face-to-face dimensions shall be in accordance with table 6. 4.5.2 Wafer body ends 4.5.2.1 Dimensions Body ends shall be capable of mating with connecting

43、flanges complying with the requirements of 4.5.1.1. 4.5.2.2 Face-to-face dimensions The face-to-face dimensions shall be in accordance with table 5. 4.5.2.3 Tolerances on face-to-face dimensions Tolerances on face-to-face dimensions shall be in accordance with table 6.
