6、f crockery decoration to detergents and alkalis 1 Scope This standard specifies a method for the determination of the resistance of crockery decoration to detergents and alkalis. 2 Reagents Use only analytical grade reagents and carbon dioxide-free distilled water. a) Tri-sodium phosphate solution,
7、having a mass fraction of 1 % of tri-sodium phosphate (Na3PO4). b) Carbon dioxide-free distilled water. 3 Apparatus 3.1 Measuring cylinder, with a capacity of 1000 mL graduated in millilitres. 3.2 Heat resistant wide neck flask, with a capacity of 1000 mL graduated in millilitres. 3.3 Condenser, wit
8、h an outer glass tube that has two hose connections. 3.4 Means of heating solution to boiling point. 4 Sampling and preparation of the test specimens 4.1 Sampling Take a laboratory sample as specified in the relevant product standard. Where no standard exists, take the laboratory sample as agreed up
9、on between the test laboratory and the manufacturer to ensure a reasonable and acceptable reliability at a reasonable and acceptable confidence level. 4.2 Preparation of the test specimens From a test specimen that has not been tested for resistance to crazing, thermal shock, or metal release, break
10、 a piece (with decoration) having an area of approximately 1 500 mm2. SANS 5796:2008 Edition 2 2 5 Procedure 5.1 Measure 500 mL of the tri-sodium phosphate solution into a 1 L heat resistant wide neck flask, bring it to the boil, add the test specimen, and boil (under reflux) for 30 min. 5.2 Remove
11、the specimen from the solution, rinse and dry it. 5.3 Examine its decoration for visible attack by comparing it with the decoration on the remainder of the test sample.
