、and testing 3 Types 3.1 Wheeled bed screens shall be one of the following types: a) Type A. A three-panel folding screen mounted on six castors (see figure 1). SANS 897:2008 Edition 2.4 4 b) Type B. An overbed cantilever folding screen mounted on four castors (see figure 2). c) Type C. A four-panel

、folding screen, mounted on eight castors (see figure 3). Amdt 1 d) Type D. A five-panel folding screen, mounted on ten castors (see figure 4). Amdt 1 4 Requirements 4.1 Materials 4.1.1 Mild steel tubes Mild steel tubes shall comply with the relevant requirements for grade 230 or grade 250 mild steel

、 tubes in accordance with SANS 657-4. Amdt 3; amdt 4 4.1.2 Stainless steel tubes Stainless steel tubes shall be of 18/8 (AISI Type 304) stainless steel or other acceptable austenitic stainless steel of weldable quality. 4.1.3 Paint The paint shall be an enamel, or a system comprising a primer and an

、 enamel. Amdt 3 4.1.4 Epoxy-powder coatings Epoxy-powder coatings shall be based on a compounded epoxy-resin suitable for application by a fluidised-bed process or an aerostatic spray process. 4.2 Castors The castors fitted to the screens shall be 75 mm in diameter and shall comply with the requirem

、ents of SANS 1292. Amdt 2 4.3 Welded joints The parts of all permanent joints shall be close fitting and in correct alignment, and the whole joint shall be welded. Where the open end of one tube is joined to the side of another tube, the profile of the open end shall match the profile of the side to

、 which it is clean joined. The welds shall be acceptable fusion welds or braze welds. Weld faces shall be smooth, clean and free from porosity, cavities, and trapped slag. The weld faces shall merge smoothly into the surface of the parent metal without overlap or undue undercut. The weld metal, heat

、 affected zone, and adjacent parent metal shall be free from cracks. Where welding is done from one side only, there shall be full penetration of the joint. The welds and adjoining metal shall be smooth and free from flux, slag, and spatter. 4.4 Screens 4.4.1 General The screens shall be constructed

、 of mild steel or stainless steel tubes, as specified by the purchaser, of nominal wall thickness 1,60 mm. Any flattening or reduction in diameter of the tubes during fabrication shall not exceed 4 % of the actual outside diameter of the tubes. The dimensions shall be as shown in the relevant one of

、 figures 1 - 4, subject to the tolerance of 3 mm. When the completed screen is placed in the extended position on its castors on a horizontal flat surface, the vertical members shall be not more than 6 mm out of plumb and the horizontal members shall be not more than 6 mm out of level. SANS 897:2008

、 Edition 2.4 5 4.4.2 Type A screens a) Frames. Each panel frame shall be constructed of tubes of nominal outside diameter at least 20 mm and shall be of rectangular shape with 90 bends of approximately 50 mm inside radius. Each outer frame shall have two castors mounted on the legs of a cross-member

、 made of tubes of nominal outside diameter at least 25 mm. The cross-member shall be welded to the frame (at 90 to the plane of the frame) in the position shown in figure 1. The centre frame shall have two castors each mounted on a separate leg welded so as to be coplanar with the frame in the posit

、ions shown in figure 1. The design shall allow the screen to be so folded that the three frames lie parallel to one another. b) Hinges. Each outer panel frame shall be joined to the centre panel frame by means of two steel tubular hinges 40 mm long and having an easy fit on the tubular members. The

、hinges shall be kept in position on the frames by means of welded collars as illustrated in figure 1. 4.4.3 Type B screens a) Main panel frame. The main panel frame and legs shall be constructed of tubes of nominal outside diameter at least 25 mm, and the frame shall have four castors (mounted one o

、n each leg). The outside radii of the 90 bends at the top of the rectangular main panel frame shall be equal and shall not exceed 100 mm. b) Cantilever panel frames. The cantilever panel frames shall be constructed of tubes of nominal outside diameter at least 15 mm. Each cantilever panel frame shal

、l be in one piece and shall be so hinged to the main panel frame that the tops of the three frames move in the same plane. Each cantilever frame shall be capable of being so rotated (in either direction) round the vertical member of the main panel frame as to lie parallel to the main panel frame. c)

、 Hinges. The hinges shall be constructed of steel tubes welded side to side and shall be of the length illustrated in figure 2. The hinge tubes shall be a snug fit on the frame tubes and shall be kept in position by means of welded collars. The desired friction between the hinges and the cantilever

、frames shall be obtained by means of spring washers (controlled by an adjustable nut at the lower end of each hinge) or by other acceptable arrangement. 4.4.4 Type C screens a) Frames. The construction, size, and type of material used shall be the same as for type A screens, except that there shall

、be two inner and two outer frames. The two inner frames shall each have two castors, each mounted on a separate leg welded so as to be coplanar with the frame in the positions shown in figure 3. The two castors of each outer frame shall be mounted on the legs of a cross-member welded to the frame at

、 90 to the plane of the frame in the position shown in figure 3. The design shall allow the screen to be so folded that the four frames lie parallel to one another. Amdt 1 b) Hinges. Each outer frame shall be joined to the adjacent inner frame and each pair of inner frames shall be joined by means o

、f two steel tubular hinges 40 mm long and having an easy fit on the tubular members. The hinges shall be kept in position on the frames by means of welded collars as illustrated in figure 3 and the detail in figure 1. Amdt 1 4.4.5 Type D screens a) Frames. The construction, size, and type of materia

、l used shall be the same as for type A or type C screens except that there shall be three inner and two outer frames (see figure 4). Amdt 1 SANS 897:2008 Edition 2.4 6 b) Hinges. The requirements for the hinges of type D screens shall be the same as for type C screens. Amdt 1 4.5 Finish Exposed mild

The quality of the finish shall not be inferior to the finish on the relevant standard sample held by the South African Bureau of Standards1).5 Marking 5.1 Marking A frame of every screen shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the manufacturers name or trade name or trademark. 5.2

、Method of marking The marking shall be embossed or stamped on the carrier or shall be applied by means of an indelible transfer. The marking shall in each case be at least 500 mm2in area. 6 Sampling and compliance with the specification2) 6.1 Sampling The following sampling procedure shall be applie
