11、evel of TrainingSpecify the level of training to be provided in the Detail Specification in splice classificationworksheet. Examples of varying levels of training include:1) Published instruction manual.2) Videotape of instruction manual.3) Training course.2.1.5 Storage RequirementsProvide storage r
12、equirements such as dimensional size limits, or the need for compatibility withspecific storage equipment in the Detail Specification. A sketch of required maximumdimensions may be included in the splice classification of the Detail Specification2.1.6 Environmental CategoriesThe environmental catego
13、ry describes the limits of the environmental conditions under which thesplice will function in accordance with the completed Detail Specification. There are four spliceenvironmental categories; I, II, III, and IV. Respectively, these environments are: controlled,protected, non-protected, and other.
14、These are defined by protection from the elements oftemperature, relative humidity, and atmospheric pressure. Test parameters are to be specifiedin a manner that is consistent with the environmental category. The minimum test requirementsfor each category are given in tables 1, 2, 3 and the timebetw
15、een periodic qualifications for Groups D, E & F. Detail Specifications shall specify one ormore assessment levels.The assessment level may be designated by the capital letters listed below for the preferredlevels or by the AQL or inspection period for each group if the preferred levels are not adequ
16、ate.Specify the assessment level and sampling plan in accordance with either ANSI/ASQC-Q3 orMil-Std-105E. Subsidiary specifications consist ofSectional Specifications, including Blank Detail Specificat

Thespecification numbering system is given on the back of the front cover of this document.2.2.1 PrecedenceThe requirements for an optical fiber splice are specified in this Generic Specification for OpticalFiber Splices, (TIA/EIA-6090000), and in the associated Sect
22、ional (TIA/EIA-609A000) and Detail(TIA/EIA-609AA00) Specifications.In event that the requirements of this specification conflict with the requirements of the Sectionalor Detail Specification, the order of precedence shall be Generic over Sectional over Detail,unless authority is delegated to a lower
23、 level document for a specific item.2.2.2 Information to be contained in the Sectional SpecificationEach Sectional Specification is based on a splice classification type and the correspondingminimum testing requirements and procedures. Each Sectional Specification also containsSpecific information a
24、bout the relevant Blank Detail Specification. Each Sectional Specificationmay provide preferred values for the test parameters and quality assessment procedures.2.2.3 Information to be contained in the Blank Detail SpecificationIncluded in the Blank Detail Specification are a blank splice classifica
25、tion outline, a Blank DetailSpecification worksheet, and instructions on how to write a Detail Specification. An example of acompleted splice classification shall also be included in the Blank Detail Specification.2.2.4 Information to be contained in the Detail SpecificationA completed Splice Classi
26、fication and Qualification schedule shall be included in the DetailSpecification. The format for reporting the test results, observations and conclusions may beincluded in the Detail Specification. Any additional tests required for the specific DetailSpecification along with the test parameters shal
27、l be included in the Detail Specification.2.2.5 UnitsUnits and symbols shall be taken from IEEE/ASTM SI 10 whenever possible. SystemInternational (SI) units shall be used wherever units are needed. English units may be added inparenthesis. All units must be stated. No more than 5 significant digits
28、shall be used.2.2.6 MeasurementsWhen measurements are specified within a total tolerance range of less than 1 micrometer(m), the measurement method and error must be stated.TIA/EIA-609000RGB, TIA FO-6.3, 2/4/00162.2.7 Test EquipmentAll test equipment shall be calibrated not more than 12 months prior

Specifications fortest equipment shall be listed in the relevant FOTP document or in the relevant Sectional andDetail Specifications.2.2.8 Test ReportsA test report for each test conducted to a Detail Specification shall be laid out as specified in theDetail Specification. Test reports

31、ment Error RangeThe error range for each test system shall be determined through repeated measurements (aminimum of 10 measurements) on a single sample or through the use of a reference channelduring a test. The error range for measuring transmission power shall be less than + 0.03 dB fortests of le
32、ss than 24 hours in duration and less than + 0.08 dB in longer tests.2.2.10 Preferred Attribute ValuesPreferred attribute values may be given in the Sectional Specification and or the FOTP. Preferred attribute values are given for two reasons: To offer some guidance to the DetailSpecification author
33、 in writing a specification, and to discourage the proliferation of essentiallysimilar specifications.2.2.11 Product Identification NumberTIA shall assign each splice product a discrete part number assigned for use in productidentification. This number is not necessarily the same number that the man
34、ufacturer hasassigned as a part number to be used in product literature and documentation.2.3 General Splice Information2.3.1 Construction MaterialsMaterials used in the construction of the splice and assembly tooling shall meet therequirements given below.TIA/EIA-609000RGB, TIA FO-6.3, 2/4/00172.3.
35、1.1 MetalsAll metals shall be corrosion resistant or suitably finished to prevent corrosion under theenvironmental conditions specified herein. Dissimilar metals shall not intimately contact eachother unless finished to prevent electrolytic corrosion. The selection and protection of dissimilarmetal
36、combinations is in accordance with MIL-STD-889.2.3.1.2 Non-MetalsNon-metallic materials shall be stable in the environmental conditions specified herein.2.3.2 WorkmanshipComponents and associated hardware shall be manufactured to a uniform quality and shall befree of sharp edges, burrs and other def
37、ects that will affect life, safety, serviceability,appearance, or use.2.3.3 MarkingsIt is desirable that each optical fiber splice and required that all packaging be consistently markedin such a manner that the assembly lot may be traced by the manufacturer. The markings shallbe at least 1 mm in hei
38、ght.2.3.3.1 Product Identification MarkingsRequired product markings shall be specified in the Detail Specification. The preferred order ofmarking is:1) Manufacturers identification mark2) Manufacturers part number3) Manufacturers date code2.3.3.2 Package MarkingSplice packaging shall be clearly mar
39、ked with the following:1) Manufacturers name2) Manufacturers part number3) Lot identification code4) Date code5) Necessary safety warnings printed on the packaging in bold lettering.2.3.4 PackagingThe splices shall be packaged such that they are kept dry and are protected from damage duringshipping
40、and storage.2.3.5 Assembly MaterialsAll tools and consumable materials necessary for the construction of optical fiber splices shallbe listed in the manufacturers published instruction manual along with performance andTIA/EIA-609000RGB, TIA FO-6.3, 2/4/0018ordering criteria of the tools and consumab
41、les such that splices which meet the DetailSpecification may be constructed.2.3.6 Product DocumentationProduct documentation shall include a manufacturers published instruction manual and aproduct brochure. The manufacturers published instruction manual shall provide instructions asto how to properl
42、y assemble the product and maintain the associated tooling. The manual shallbe included with every splice fabrication tool or machine. The product brochure shall includegeneral splice information as well as ordering information on splices and any associatedaccessories such as tools and tool kits. If
43、 further training is available (i.e. a training video orclass), information as to how this training may be attained shall be included in the productbrochure. The product brochure shall be available from the manufacturer or any distributor.2.3.7 Splice DrawingsA mechanical drawing of the splice shall
44、 be included in the manufacturers published instructionmanual. The drawing shall be dimensioned such that provisions for splice storage can be made.2.3.8 Splice InstallationA list of the necessary equipment, materials and environment for the assembly of splices whichmeet the Detail Specification sha
45、ll be provided in the manufacturers published instructionmanual. Specifically this includes the following:1) Consumable Materials2) Tools Required3) Power Requirements4) Safety Requirements5) Minimum fiber length required for splicing2.3.9 Splice AssemblyAny restrictions on splice assembly condition
46、s such as temperature, humidity, ultravioletradiation, space, or the need for electrical power shall be stated in the manufacturers publishedinstruction manual.2.4 Tooling Requirements2.4.1 Equipment Maintenance and CalibrationRecommended maintenance and calibration requirements and procedures for e
47、quipmentnecessary to produce splices which meet the performance requirements of the DetailSpecification shall be given in the manufacturers published instruction manual.2.4.2 CleaningAll critical surfaces such as mirrors, viewer lenses, fiber clamping and guiding surfaces, andelectrodes must be easily accessible for cleaning.
