Scope1.1 This specification covers sintered aluminum structuralparts made primarily from aluminum powders to which con-trolled amounts of

3、master alloys or elemental copper, magne-sium, and silicon have been added by blending.1.2 This specification covers the following variables:1.2.1 CompositionDepending upon levels of copper, mag-nesium, and silicon content, two grades, and1.2.2 DensityType.1.3 Parts ordered to this specification wil

4、l be in one of thefollowing conditions:1.3.1 As-sintered,1.3.2 As-repressed for additional density, or1.3.3 All other conditions plus heat treated.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material to this specification shall include thefollowing information:4.1.1 Dimensio

7、ns (see 9.1),4.1.2 Chemical composition (see 6.1),4.1.3 Density (see 7.1),4.1.4 State of heat treatment,4.1.5 Mechanical property requirements (see 8.1), and4.1.6 Certification (see 14.1).5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Structural parts shall be made by molding and sinteringmetal powders to produce

8、finished parts conforming to therequirements of this specification.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The material shall conform to the requirements of Table1.6.2 The chemical analysis shall be made in accordance withthe methods prescribed in the latest edition of the Annual Bookof ASTM Standards, Vol 03.05

9、, or any other approved methodagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.7. Density7.1 The parts shall conform to the density range prescribedin Table 2.7.2 The density shall be measured in accordance with TestMethod B 328.7.3 If the density does not vary more than 0.1 g/cm3fromone secti

10、on of the structural part to any other section, theoverall density shall fall within the limits prescribed in Table 2.7.4 If the density varies more than 0.1 g/cm3from onesection of the structural part to any other section, the manu-facturer and the purchaser shall agree upon a critical section ofth

11、e part where the stresses are the highest. The density of thiscritical section rather than the average density shall fall withinthe limits prescribed in Table 2.8. Mechanical Properties8.1 The manufacturer and the purchaser shall agree onqualification tests for the determination of mechanical proper

12、-ties.8.2 These tests shall be performed on production parts.8.3 These tests shall be determined after consideration ofthe function of the part.8.4 The limits and sampling plan shall be agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and purchaser.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee

15、9428-2959, United States.8.5 All shipments of parts subsequent to the establishmentof testing conditions shall conform to the limits agreed upon.NOTE 1The mechanical properties in tension and compression thatmay be expected from standard specimens molded to size are given inAppendix X1 of this speci

16、fication.9. Dimensions and Tolerances9.1 Permissible variations in dimensions shall be within thelimits specified on the drawings describing the structural partsaccompanying the order or shall be within the limits specifiedin the order.10. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance10.1 Structural parts sha

17、ll be uniform in composition.10.2 When parts are cut or fractured, the exposed surfaceshall be of uniform appearance.11. Sampling11.1 LotUnless otherwise specified, a lot shall consist ofparts of the same form and dimensions made from powders ofthe same composition molded and sintered under the same

18、conditions and submitted for inspection at one time.11.2 Chemical AnalysisIf required by purchase agree-ment, at least one sample for chemical analysis shall be takenfrom each lot. A representative sample of chips may beobtained by dry milling, drilling or crushing at least two pieceswith clean dry

19、tools without lubrication. In order to obtainoil-free chips, the parts selected for test shall have the oilextracted in accordance with Test Method B 328, if necessary.11.3 Mechanical TestsThe manufacturer and purchasershall agree on a representative number of specimens formechanical tests.12. Inspe

20、ction12.1 Unless otherwise specified, inspection of parts sup-plied on contract shall be made by the purchaser.13. Rejection and Rehearing13.1 Parts that fail to conform to the requirements of thisspecification may be rejected. Rejection should be reported tothe producer or supplier promptly and in

21、writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with test results, the producer or supplier maymake claim for rehearing.14. Certification14.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers certification shall be furnished to the purchaser thatthe parts were manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspec

22、ted inaccordance with this specification and have been found to meetthe requirements. When specified in the purchase order orcontract, a report of the test results shall be furnished.14.2 The purchase order shall specify whether or not thecertification includes chemistry.14.3 Upon request of the pur

23、chaser in the contract or order,the certification of an independent third party indicatingconformance to the requirements of this specification may beconsidered.15. MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND HARDNESS DATAX1.1 Data for the mechanical properties of sintered alumi-num specimens are given in Table X1.1. The data do notconstitute a part of this specification. They merely indicate tothe purchaser th

25、e mechanical properties that may be expectedfrom special tension specimens conforming to the density andchemical requirements specified. It should be understood thatthe values represent specimens molded to size and not speci-mens cut from commercial parts. See Fig. 20 of Test MethodsE8.X1.2 Hardness
