3、uirements regarding UV radiation. All the following text is “new.”(New section)4.4A Protection from Overexposure to Ultraviolet Radiation4.4A.1.1 Refrigerators capable of producing ultraviolet (UV) radiation shall be investigated for emission ofultraviolet radiation in accordance with the ultraviole

4、t irradiance test, Sec. 8.31Exception: Exception: Products exclusively identified for the use of lamps rated “Exempt Risk Group” byANSI/IES RP-27.1.4.4A.1.2 UV generators accessed by other than trained service personnel shall have features to minimizethe risk of overexposure of users. User access to

5、 ultraviolet radiation that may result in overexposure shallbe prevented by reliable means, such as enclosures and interlocks.4.4A.1.3 UV generators that emit more than 0.1 microwatt/cm2for an eight-hour period shall be providedwith a means to eliminate emission of ultraviolet radiation outside the

6、enclosure during periods of normaluse while emissions are not desired. When determining compliance with this requirement, user accessiblesurfaces of the refrigerated compartments are considered outside the enclosure.4.4A.1.4 Interlocks used to minimize risk of overexposure to ultraviolet radiation s

7、hall be reliable. Theactuator of an interlock shall be located so that unintentional operation is unlikely and it is not able to bedefeated with the articulate probe shown in Figure 4.1.(New Paragraphs)4.8.1.8 Polymeric enclosures, internal wiring, and other component parts shall be resistant to the

8、 level andduration of UV radiation to which they are exposed, before and after any anticipated mechanical stressesto which they may be subjected, if degradation would result in non-compliance with other requirements ofthis Standard.4.8.1.8.1 Polymeric parts provided to minimize the risk of overexpos

9、ure to UV radiation are considered tocomply with 4.8.1.8 if they comply with the tests referenced in paragraph 8.31.3 and:a) the thickness is greater than 0.5 mm (0.020 in.), orUL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULb) where the test

10、UV frequency is representative of the UV generator, the polymeric materialcomplies with the Ultraviolet Light Exposure evaluation in UL 746C, the Standard for PolymericMaterials Use In Electrical Equipment Evaluations.(New section)8.31 Ultraviolet Irradiance test8.31.1 Emissions of ultraviolet radia

11、tion from the refrigerators shall be investigated in accordance with theAmerican Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Threshold Limit Values andBiological Indices.8.31.2 Testing shall be performed in the condition(s) most likely to result in the highest emission levels,including

12、removal or adjustment of drawers, guards or operating settings, and with doors opened andclosed. The test shall be performed using a new lamp (or other integral radiation source) representativeof the maximum emission capability (including user replacement parts). The measurement device shall beplace

13、d as close as possible to the radiation source to represent the users body.8.31.3 Parts provided to minimize the risk of overexposure to ultraviolet radiation shall be resistant todegradation from mechanical abuse. After subjecting the parts to the tests of Sections 8.30 and 9.6, theparts shall be v

14、isually examined. If visual examination indicates that the protection afforded may havebeen impaired, irradiance measurements shall be repeated. A different sample shall be used for eachmechanical abuse/irradiance test sequence unless agreeable to all parties.8.31.4 For refrigerators that may emit d

15、ifferent levels of ultraviolet radiation under use and serviceconditions, these additional conditions shall be considered in the irradiance measurements.8.31.5 Instrumentation used for the radiation measurements shall be suitable for the measuring emissionsof the radiation source and frequencies.(Ne

16、w section)11.1.27 Markings for Products Generating UV Radiation11.1.27.1 A compartment that contains a user replaceable lamp that produces ultraviolet radiation inexcess of 0.1 microwatt/cm2for an eight-hour period shall be marked with the word “WARNING” and thefollowing or equivalent: “Eye damage m

17、ay result from directly viewing the light produced by the lamp inthis apparatus. Always turn off lamp before opening this cover.” The marking shall be located wherereadily visible during any approach to the lamp compartment.1.1.27.2 Markings shall indicate to the user the proper method of replacemen

18、t. For user replaceablelamps, the permitted replacement lamps by manufacturer and part number shall be specified. Lampsintended for service replacement only shall be clearly marked to indicate the need for servicing.11.1.27.3 Refrigerators incorporating an interlock to reduce the risk of overexposur

19、e shall be marked withthe word “WARNING” and the following or equivalent: “This cover is provided with an Interlock to reducethe risk of excessive ultraviolet radiation. Do not Defeat its purpose or attempt to service without removingcover completely.” The marking shall be located where readily visi

20、ble during any approach to defeat theinterlock.(New section)11.2.7 Instructions for Products Generating UV RadiationSTANDARD NUMBER: UL 250 -2-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL11.2.7.1 The instructions shall contain the manufact

21、urers declaration of conformity to the applicableprovisions of applicable US Federal requirements, including 21 CFR, Chapter 1, Subchapter J,Radiological Health.11.2.7.2 Markings of paragraphs 11.1.27.1 11.1.27.3 related to minimizing the risk of user overexposureto ultraviolet radiation shall be re

22、peated under Important Safety Instructions.11.2.7.3 Refrigerators with ultraviolet radiation levels under service conditions over 0.1 microwatt/cm2shall be provided with instructions indicating the need for all servicing to be performed by qualified servicepersonnel.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:UL 250 doe

23、s not currently have ultraviolet radiation requirements.
