8、BUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements apply to indoor air quality systems of the ozone generating type intended forcommercial/industrial applications and intended for permanent connection within the air handling system.Sensors/detectors are provided but are not i

9、ntegrated with the system control. The sensors/detectorsprovide electrical feedback to the system control, regarding monitored ozone. The system controlresponds by adjusting or shutting down system operation and intended to monitor accumulated ozonebelow regulatory limits. These products are rated 6

10、00 volts or less and are intended to be employed inaccordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and all applicable indoor air quality regulations.1.2 These requirements do not cover:a) Portable indoor air quality systems;b) Indoor air quality systems intended for use in hospitality and ins

11、titutional applications havingsleeping quarters, such as hotel guest rooms, nursing homes, dormitories, etc.;c) Indoor air quality systems intended for healthcare applications;d) Indoor air quality systems intended for installation in other than tertiary educationalinstitutions. Exclusion includes p

12、reschool, primary and secondary educational institutions;e) Indoor air quality systems relying on RF or other wireless transmission of signals betweendevices;f) Primary or secondary battery operated equipment;g) Emergency signaling equipment as addressed in Standards such as, but not limited to UL20

13、75, UL 2017, UL 268, UL 864, NFPA 72 and NFPA 720;h) Product performance and/or effectiveness in the management of indoor air qualityi) Sensors/detectors for other than ozone monitoring; andj) Indoor air quality system employing UV lamps.1.3 The equipment shall comply with the applicable requirement

15、nent of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by

16、 this Outline of Investigation; orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of Investigation.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance

17、capabilities.Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures notexceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.3 Units of Measurement3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses a

18、re explanatory orapproximate information.4 Undated References4.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this Outline ofInvestigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.5 Glossary5.1 COMPONENT, CRITICAL A component is

19、 considered critical if two or more failure modes of thecomponent, which will affect the intended operation or the sensitivity of the detector, sensor or alarm,do not result in a trouble signal.5.2 COMPONENT, CONDITIONALLY CRITICAL A component is considered conditionally critical ifonly one failure

20、mode of the component will affect the intended operation or the sensitivity of thedetector, sensor or alarm, and does not result in a trouble signal (A trouble signal is indicated byenergization of an audible signal and energization of a separate visual indication (amber or orange), orde-energizatio

21、n of a power-on light. The visual indication that is depended on to denote the visualportion of the trouble condition shall have a documented predicted failure rate of not greater than 2.5failures per million hours)5.3 COMPONENT, LIMITED-LIFE A component of a sensor/detector that is expected to fail

22、 and beperiodically replaced and the failure of which is supervised, when failure of the component affects theintended operation, sensitivity, or both. Typical examples of such components include incandescentlamps, electronic tube heaters, and functional heating elements.5.4 COMPONENT, NON-CRITICAL

23、A component is considered noncritical if all failure modes of thecomponent will result in a trouble signal, or have no effect on the intended operation of the detector,sensor or alarm for alarm and trouble signals, and will not affect the sensitivity of the device or system.FEBRUARY 14, 2014 UL 867A

24、 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL5.5 COMPONENT, RELIABLE A component of a sensor/detector that is not expected to fail or beperiodically replaced and is not supervised. A reliable component shall have a predicted failure rate

25、of2.5 or less failures per million hours as determined for Ground Fixed (GF) environment by MIL-HDBK217F, or equivalent.Note: Failure rate developed as part of the Standard for Single and Multiple Station Fire Alarms, UL 217.5.6 OPERATING TEMPERATURE Air temperature of the environment where the air

26、quality system,including sensor(s)/detector(s), is installed.5.7 SENSOR AND/OR DETECTOR, MULTIPLE STATION A single sensor or detector that is able tobe interconnected with one or more other sensors or detectors for common data processing that mayresult in the monitoring, activation or deactivation,

27、non-emergency data/communication, of equipment.5.8 SYSTEM CONTROLS Controls intended to alter air quality system performance (high voltageoutput parameters, fan speed) or shut down the air quality system in response to ambient ozoneconcentrations.5.9 TROUBLE SIGNAL An audible and visual signal (see

28、Lamps, Section 7.2 of this Outline)intended to indicate a fault or trouble condition, such as, but not limited to an open or shorted conditionof a sensor or sensor component, detector and/or associated control equipment/unit, loss of A/C power,the need for replacement of a limited life component, or

29、 an open or ground condition in the connectedwiring. The audible portion of the trouble signal must differ from a fire/emergency signal and beidentified by an audible single tone pattern consisting of a short beep of not more than 0.5 seconds,and repeating once every 30 60 seconds 10%. This signal s

30、hall be repeated until the troublecondition is corrected.5.10 UNCONDITIONED AREAS Open or enclosed occupancies and spaces without continuouscomfort controls where there is a potential for concentration of ozone. (Examples include parkinggarages, equipment rooms absent of climate control, space betwe

31、en the drop ceiling and the floorabove the drop ceiling, cottages, barns, etc.)CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Indoor air quality systems shall be provided with a ozone sensor(s) and/or detector(s) to monitorozone concentrations in the occupied/unoccupied space for compliance with the manufacturers defined

32、toxicity limit(s), but not to exceed the minimum permissible limits defined by NIOSH in the Pocket Guideto Chemical Hazards .FEBRUARY 14, 2014UL 867A6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL7 Ozone Sensor and/or Detector7.1 Reliability

33、 determination and failure rate calculation7.1.1 Descriptive information related to the reliability determination and failure rate calculation aredetailed in Section 11, Performance Electrical Supervision. The requirements outlined within this Sectionprovide general engineering assessment guidelines

34、 as well as functional safety related to the ozonesensor.7.2 Lamps7.2.1 The detector or sensor shall be provided with a “power-on” lamp to indicate energization of thedevice.7.2.2 If more than one lamp is provided on the detector or sensor, the “power-on” lamp shall be white orgreen, and the trouble

35、 lamp shall be amber or yellow.7.2.3 The sensor, detector and/or control unit shall be marked as described in 16.8.7.3 Sensor and/or detector reliability prediction7.3.1 The maximum failure rate for an sensor or detector assembly or circuit shall be 4.0 failures permillion hours as calculated by a f

36、ull part stress analysis prediction as described in Section 2.0 ofMIL-HDBK 217F or 3.5 failures per million hours as calculated by a simplified parts count reliabilityprediction as described in Appendix A of MIL-HDBK 217F, or equivalent. A Ground Fixed (GF)environment is to be used for all calculati

37、ons. When actual equivalent data is available from themanufacturer it is not prohibited that it be used in lieu of the projected data for the purpose of determiningreliability.7.3.2 The maximum failure rate for a sensor or individual component is 2.5 failures per million hours ascalculated by a full

38、 part stress analysis prediction as described in 3.4 of MIL-HDBK 217F or equivalent. AGround Fixed (GF) environment is to be used for all calculations. When actual equivalent data isavailable from the manufacturer it is not prohibited that it be used in lieu of the projected data for thepurpose of d

39、etermining reliability.7.3.3 A component is not required to be included in the failure rate calculation if the failure of thatcomponent:a) Results in energization of a trouble signal, energization of a separate visual indication, orde-energization of a power-on light;b) Does not effect the normal op

40、eration or sensitivity; orc) Is evaluated by specific performance tests included in the standard.Examples include the audible signal appliance, non-compulsory thermostat, and test switch.FEBRUARY 14, 2014 UL 867A 7UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT

41、 PERMISSION FROM UL7.3.4 An integral or remote accessory, such as an integral transmitter or remote sounding appliance, isnot required to be included in the reliability prediction except for those components whose failure affectsthe normal operation of the detector.7.3.5 A custom integrated circuit

42、(CHIP) employed to communicate and interpret the signal from thesensors shall have a predicted failure rate of not greater than 2.5 failures per million hours. The failurerate is to be determined through an evaluation of data in a 3000-hour burn-in test, or equivalent.(Reference Supplement SA, Relia

43、bility and Failure Rate Determination within ANSI/UL 2075 for detailedreliability and failure rate requirements.)7.3.6 Unless otherwise noted within this Outline, a sensor, or a sensing component supervision and itsrelated electronic circuit shall be provided with the following:a) Reliability data d

44、eveloped using the Military Standardization Handbook, MIL 217-F orequivalent demonstrating a predicted failure rate of not more than 2.5 failures per million hoursoperation (see 7.3.4); orb) Supervision of the predicted failure modes other than for loss of electrical continuity.Documentation of the

45、failure modes resulting from aging for the sensor or the sensingcomponents and identification of failure modes addressed by the supervision system shall beprovided. The manufacturer shall submit a test method to render the sensor unresponsive to thegas concentrations identified in 7.4.5 if the docum

46、entation submitted for the sensor or thesensing components indicates drift in the less sensitive direction. This method shall be usedwhen conducting the Electrical Supervision Test, Section 11. All predicted failure modes shallresult in a trouble signal; orc) Supervision of the sensor drift beyond t

47、he specified operating range/tolerance whichever isgreater.7.4 Compatibility7.4.1 The ozone generator with other elements of the power supply, sensing and control system shall becompatible and operate successfully as a coordinated system relative to the intended signaling functionand without risk of

48、 fire, shock, or injury to persons.7.4.2 The requirements in 7.4.1 apply to:a) Separate controls, power supplies and other devices connected to any circuit of the system,including the branch circuit, and by which the devices are actuated for signaling and/orcontrolling a load; andb) Separate or inco
