Scope1.1 This specification covers dry-cast concrete ballastblocks that are primarily used for ballast of rooftop equipment.These units are machine-made from hydraulic c

3、ement, water,and suitable mineral aggregates with or without the inclusionof other materials.NOTE 1The design of concrete ballast block systems for resistingwind uplift is beyond the scope of this specification. Building codes andother standards should be consulted in designing for wind uplift resis

4、-tance.1.2 The text of this standard references notes and footnotesthat provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes(excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be consideredas requirements of the standard.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The v

18、ducers are allowed to modify grading to meet theirneeds and the requirements of this specification.4.3 Pigments for Integrally Colored ConcreteSpecification C979/C979M.4.4 Other ConstituentsAir-entraining agents, integral wa-ter repellents, and other constituents shall be previously estab-lished as

19、suitable for use in concrete roof pavers and shallconform to applicable ASTM standards or shall be shown bytest or experience satisfactory to the purchaser to be notdetrimental to the durability of the units or any materialcustomarily used in concrete roof pavers.5. Physical Requirements5.1 At the t

20、ime of delivery to the purchaser, the units shallconform to the physical requirements of Table 1 when tested inaccordance with 7.2.NOTE 3The purchaser is the public body or authority, association,corporation, partnership, or individual entering into a contract or agree-ment to purchase or install, o

21、r both, concrete ballast block. The time ofdelivery to the purchaser is FOB plant when the purchaser or thepurchasers agent transports the concrete ballast block, or at the timeunloaded at the worksite if the manufacturer or the manufacturers agenttransports the concrete ballast block.5.2 Freeze-Tha

22、w DurabilityIn areas where repeated freez-ing and thawing under saturated conditions occur, freeze-thawdurability shall be demonstrated by test or by proven fieldperformance that the concrete ballast block units have adequatedurability for the intended use. When testing is required by thespecifier t

23、o demonstrate freeze thaw durability, the units shallbe tested in accordance with 7.3.5.2.1 The weight loss of each of five test specimens at theconclusion of 100 cycles in tap water shall not exceed 5 % ofits initial weight.5.3 All units shall be sound and free of cracks or otherdefects that would

24、interfere with the proper placement of theunit or would significantly impair the strength or permanenceof the construction. Minor cracks incidental to the usualmethod of manufacture or minor chipping resulting fromcustomary methods of handling in shipment and delivery arenot grounds for rejection.5.

25、4 A shipment shall not contain more than 5 % of units,including broken units, that do not meet the requirements of6.1.6. Permissible Variations in Dimension and Weight6.1 Overall dimensions for width, height, and length shallnot differ by more than 618 in. (3.2 mm) from the specifiedstandard dimensi

26、ons.6.2 For concrete ballast block, the average oven-dry weightof the three specimens tested shall meet or exceed the specifiedminimum weight, with no individual unit less than 90 % of thespecified minimum weight.7. Sampling and Testing7.1 The purchaser or authorized representative shall beaccorded

27、proper facilities to inspect and sample the units at theplace of manufacture from the lots ready for delivery.7.2 Compressive strength, absorption, density, ballastweight and dimensional tolerances shall be based on tests ofunits of any configuration or dimensions made with the samematerials, concre

28、te mix design, manufacturing process, andcuring method, conducted in accordance with Test MethodsC140/C140M and within 12 months of production of the units.7.2.1 Concrete ballast block shall be tested in accordancewith Annex A3 of Test Methods C140/C140M.7.3 When required, freeze-thaw durability sha

29、ll be based ontests of units of any configuration or dimension made with thesame materials, concrete mix design, manufacturing process,and curing method, conducted in accordance with Test MethodC1262/C1262M and within 24 months of production of theunits.8. Compliance8.1 If a sample fails to conform

30、to the specifiedrequirements, the manufacturer shall be permitted to removeunits from the shipment. A new sample shall be selected by thepurchaser from remaining units from the shipment with asimilar configuration and dimension and tested at the expenseof the manufacturer. If the second sample meets

31、 the specifiedrequirements, the remaining portion of the shipment repre-sented by the sample meets the specified requirements. If thesecond sample fails to meet the specified requirements, theremaining portion of the shipment represented by the samplefails to meet the specified requirements.TABLE 1
