3、elded aluminum tube rein-forcement between the inner and outer layers. The inner andouter polyethylene layers are bonded to the aluminum tube bya melt adhesive. Included is a system of nomenclature for thepolyethylene-aluminum-polyethylene (PE-AL-PE) pipes, therequirements and test methods for mater
4、ials, the dimensionsand strengths of the component tubes and finished pipe,adhesion tests, and the burst and sustained pressure perfor-mance. Also given are the requirements and methods ofmarking. The pipe covered by this specification is intended foruse in potable water distribution systems for res
5、idential andcommercial applications, water service, underground irrigationsystems, and radient panel heating systems, baseboard, snow-and ice-melt systems, and gases that are compatible withcomposite pipe and fittings.1.2 This specification relates only to composite pipes incor-porating a welded alu
6、minum tube having both internal andexternal polyethylene layers. The welded aluminium tube iscapable of sustaining internal pressures. Pipes consisting ofmetallic layers not welded together and plastic layers otherthan polyethylene are outside the scope of this specification.1.3 Specifications for c

Thecomposite nature of the PE-AL-PE pipe, composed of materi-als wi
23、th very different Youngs Modulus values, will, onpressurization, not have a uniform stress distribution throughthe thickness of the wall of the pipe. The PE-AL-PE pipes havea hoop stress distribution that differs substantially from boththe thick and thin walled pipe cases.4. Pipe Classification4.1 P
24、ipe DiameterThe PE-AL-PE composite pipes areclassified by outside diameter.4.2 Pipe Dimension RatioThe concept of dimension ratiois not relevant to PE-AL-PE laminated pipes, and cannot beused to relate pressure rating with total wall thickness.5. Materials5.1 GeneralThe PE-AL-PE pipe is composed of
25、onemetallic layer, two layers of the same polyethylene meltadhesive and two layers of the same polyethylene. For pipemade to this specification the constituent materials must meetthe following requirements:5.2 AluminumThe aluminum shall have a thickness asspecified in Table 1. The material shall hav
26、e minimum elon-gations and ultimate tensile strengths of 20 % and 100 MPa(14 600 psi), respectively. The tests shall be conducted accord-ing to Test Methods E8/E8M.5.3 Polyethylene:5.3.1 Polyethylene resin used to make pipe meeting therequirements of this specification shall be virgin resin having a
27、material designation Code of PE2708, PE4708 or PE4710. asdefined in PPI TR-3.5.3.1.1 The inner PE compound shall meet the color and UVstabilizer code of A, B, C, D or E in accordance withSpecification D3350. Requirements6.1 GeneralThe requirements and test methods in thisspecification cover PE-AL-PE pipes. Tests on the individuallayers that comprise this composite pipe are outside the scopeof t
36、his specification. The raw materials used, however, mustconform to the requirements in Section 5.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances of Pipe:6.2.1 Pipe DiameterThe minimum outside diameter andtolerances of the pipe shall meet the requirements given inTable 1, when measured in accordance with 9.1 and 9.1.2
37、.Maximum and minimum (out-of-roundness) tolerances applyonly to measurements made on pipe prior to coiling.6.2.2 Pipe Wall ThicknessThe total pipe wall thicknessshall meet the requirements given in Table 2, when measuredin accordance with 9.1 and 9.1.3. The minimum wall thicknessat any point of meas
38、urement of the pipe shall not be less thanthe minimum wall thickness specified in Table 2.6.2.3 Outer Polyethylene Layer ThicknessThe thicknessof the outer layer of polyethylene in the PE-AL-PE pipe shallhave a minimum value and tolerance as specified in Table 2,except for the polyethylene material
39、overlaying the weld,which shall have a minimum thickness of half that specified inTable 2. The polyethylene thickness is measured in accordancewith 9.2.6.2.4 Pipe LengthThe pipe shall be supplied coiled or instraight lengths as agreed upon with the purchaser with anallowable tolerance of 0 mm.6.3 Ad
40、hesion Test:6.3.1 For Sizes 09 to 25 there shall be no delamination ofthe PE and AL, either on the bore side or the outside (see Fig.1). The test shall be conducted in accordance with 9.3.1.6.3.2 The adhesion test of the PE-layer to the aluminum forSizes 32 to 60 is carried out by a separation test.
41、 The minimumadhesive force is specified in Table 3. The adhesive force shallnot fall below these levels. The test shall be conducted inaccordance with 9.3.2.6.4 Apparent Tensile Strength of PipeThe pipe rings,when tested in accordance with 9.4, shall meet the minimumstrength as specified in Table 4.
42、6.5 Minimum Burst PressureThe minimum burst pressurefor PE-AL-PE pipe shall be as given in Table 4, whendetermined in accordance with 9.5.6.6 Sustained Pressure:6.6.1 The PE-AL-PE pipe rated at 60C ( 140F) shall notfail, balloon, burst, or weep, as defined in Test Method D1598,when tested for 10 h a
43、t the test pressure given in Table 5 at atemperature of 60C (140F) in accordance with 9.6.6.6.2 PE-AL-PE pipe rated at 82C ( 180F) shall not fail,balloon, burst, or weep as definded in Test Method D1598when tested in accordance with 9.6 for 10 h at the test pressuregiven in Table 5 at a temperature
44、of 82C (180F).6.7 Pressure design basis (PDB)All pipe meeting therequirements of this specification shall have a PDB of 400 psiat 73F and 200 psi at 140F obtained by categorizing thelong-term hydrostatic pressure strength determined in accor-dance with Test Method D2837 and PPI TR-3. PDB is specific
45、to the particular wall construction and pipe diameter.7. Workmanship7.1 The pipe shall be free of visible cracks, holes, foreigninclusions, blisters, and other known injurious defects. Thepipe shall be as uniform as commercially practicable in color,opacity, and regularity of the distribution of the
46、 polyethyleneinside and outside.8. Sampling and Conditioning8.1 SamplingTake a sample of the PE-AL-PE pipe suffi-cient to determine conformance with this specification. Thenumber of specimens designated for each test shall be takenfrom pipe selected at random.NOTE 1Sample size and testing frequency
47、of lots for quality controlmust be established by the manufacturer to ensure conformance to thespecification. Sampling and frequency will vary with the specific circum-stances.8.2 Test SpecimensNot less than 50 % of the test speci-mens required for any pressure test shall have at least part ofthe ma
48、rking in their central sections.
