Scope1.1 The Shipbuilders and Marine Paints and CoatingsProduct/Procedure Data Sheet2provides on one sheet neededinformation concerning the characteristics of a specific paint orcoating to include generic description, physical properties,surface preparation requirements, application req

4、uirements,and safety. The front side of the sheet contains four major,numbered paragraphs and a highlighted section for SpecialSafety Precautions. These paragraphs are as follows:I. Application1.2 The completed data sheets can be used by technicalpersonnel to help evaluate the technical acceptability of aproposed material, by production personnel to evaluate pro-duction compatibility of proposed materials

The following instruc-tions are organized by paragraph numbers contained within thedata sheet.3.2 Paragraph IGeneric Type and Description Use onlyknown and industry-accepted generic descriptions. Also, listany specification specific terminology (for example, MIL-PRF-2

17、3236 Type I, Class 2, etc.). See Fig. 1.3.3 Paragraph IIManufacturers DataThis section isself-explanatory with the possible exception of subparagraph(f). This can be as complete or as brief as the concerned partiesdesire. For example, a separate attached list of compatible andincompatible topcoats o

18、r acceptable cargo exposures could beincluded. See Fig. 1.3.4 Paragraph IIIPropertiesThis section is also self-explanatory with the following exceptions:3.4.1 Subparagraph (a)If agreed upon by the concernedparties, a different method for determining volume solids(theoretical coverage) may be substit

19、uted. The form should beamended to show method.3.4.2 Subparagraph (e)If the specification requires anedge-retentive paint to be used, the % edge retention and testmethod used should be listed.3.4.3 Subparagraph (g)Use an agreed upon standard forviscosity (for example, ASTM, etc.). Also, for two part

20、coatings, state whether the requirement is for each individualcomponent, the mixed coating, or all three.3.4.4 Subparagraph (n)any special properties (forexample, stain resistance, low temperature cure, etc.) should belisted, and any specific differences in handling, application ormaintenance proced

21、ures to maintain that property should belisted. See Fig. 1.3.5 Paragraph IVSurface Preparation Minimum Require-ments:3.5.1 Subparagraphs (a) and (b)Use an agreed-upon stan-dard for example, ASTM, SSPC, Swedish, NACE, SNAME,etc. See Fig. 1.3.5.2 Subparagraph (c)Surface profile data is required.The pr

22、ofile listed must be given as a range for the average ofall profile measurements. The method of measurement must beagreed upon by all parties concerned.3.5.3 Subparagraph (d)Any specific requirements for, orprohibitions on, the type of abrasives that can be used shall beentered in subparagraph (d),

23、Special Instructions. See Fig. 1.3.5.4 Subparagraph (f) and (g)List commercial industrystandard(s), or test method(s), or both, for conductivity andflash rust.3.6 Special Safety PrecautionsThis section should containspecific instructions of what to do in the event of skin or eyecontact or accidental

24、 ingestion, or both. Reference should alsobe made to the appropriate manufacturers Material SafetyData Sheet. See Fig. 1.3.7 Paragraph VMixing ProcedureThis section is self-explanatory with the possible exceptions of subparagraphs (c)and (f). Subparagraph (c) should preferably contain a genericsolve

25、nt as opposed to a proprietary one. Subparagraph (f)should, as a minimum, contain the mesh size of the strainingmaterial and special procedures governing which componentshould be added to the other. Subparagraph (b), if appropriate,should include length of induction time given as a function ofvariou

26、s temperatures. See Fig. 2.3.8 Paragraph VIApplicationThis section is one of themost important of the entire form. It must be filled outaccurately and completely using all blocks in every paragraph.3.8.1 Subparagraph (c), “Dry Times”Provide either agraph or a chart showing the following cure times a

27、t aminimum:(1) dry to recoat(2) dry to handle (that is, time until personnel can walk on,inspect, touch-up coat)(3) maximum recoat(4) cure to full serviceThe graph or chart shall have at a minimum each of thesefour cure times at the stated minimum and maximum ambienttemperatures, and at least one da

28、ta point in between (forexample, if a product can be applied as low as 40F, and ashigh as 100F, the chart or graph may need; to dry, to recoat,dry to handle, max recoat and cure to full service times for40F, 100F, and 70F).Maximum recoat times should be expressed in hours, days,weeks, or months.3.8.

29、2 Subparagraph (d)Equipment requirements shouldbe brief.3.8.3 Subparagraph (e)Special Instructions should in-clude mitigation steps to be followed when above conditionsnot met (for example, if max overcoat window is missed), andrequire special handling to correct.
