Chart for Determination of Category 191Requirement for Vented Condensing Gas Fireplace Heaters Part I: Construction1.1 Scope1.1.1This Requirement applies to newly produced vented condensing gas fireplace heaters (see Part IV, Definitio

7、ns), hereinafter referred to as appliance(s), not for use in recreational vehicles, constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials, and having input ratings up to and including 400,000 Btu/hr (117 228 W).a. For use with natural gas; andb. For use with liquefied petroleum (propane).1.1.11Thi

8、s Requirement only apply to Category II and IV appliances. If test results show that the appliance is other than a Category II or IV appliance, the appliance will not fall under the confines of this Requirement. 1.1.12All applicable construction requirements outlined in the current Standard for Vent

9、ed Gas Fireplace Heaters, ANSI Z21.88/CSA 2.33, also apply to a vented condensing gas fireplace heater, unless otherwise specified herein.1.1.13An appliance for indoor installation designed to vent the flue gases horizontally through an outside wall shall be specified as Direct Vent or Category III

10、or IV, except Category I and II appliances utilizing a listed mechanical venter applied externally to the venting system.1.2 General Construction And Assembly1.2.1The construction of an appliance, whether specifically covered in this standard or not, shall be in accordance with reasonable concepts o

11、f safety, substantiality and durability. Component parts shall be well fitted and not show signs of becoming warped, bent, broken or otherwise damaged during the initial test installation or during any of the tests specified so as to prevent compliance with this standard. All specifications as to co

12、nstruction set forth herein may be satisfied by the construction actually prescribed or such other construction as will provide at least equivalent performance. 1.2.15A free standing appliance with no vent attached, and if applicable a pedestal base installed, shall be constructed so that it cannot

13、be tipped by any reasonable pressure or pull. Appliances which are provided with means (including necessary screws, bolts, or both) and instructions for attaching them to the floor and wall shall be tested with these means in place. 2Method of TestAn appliance weighing not more than 100 lb (45 kg) s

14、hall be tipped in any direction at an angle of 15 degrees from the vertical and shall not tip over when released.An appliance weighing more than 100 lb (45 kg) shall not tip over when a horizontal pull in any direction, equal to 1/10the appliance weight, is applied at the center of the top of the ap

15、pliance.1.2.24Appliances other than direct vent and category II or IV gas appliances shall be provided with the means for venting* the vent gases to the outdoors unless the necessary parts to accomplish this are of specific types listed by a nationally recognized testing agency and the appliance man

16、ufacturers instructions and markings identify and specify the use of such specific parts (see 1.34.1-b25, 1.34.1-b26 and 1.35.7-m). 1.24 Direct Vent/Air Intake Pipes1.24.12A venting system supplied with a Category II or IV appliance shall be constructed of material resistant to corrosion by condensa

17、te. (See 1.2.11, in the Standard for Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters, Z21.88/CSA 2.33.) Nonmetallic material shall be judged on its temperature limitations, strength and resistance to the action of condensate. 1.24.13 A venting system supplied with a Category II or IV appliance shall be water tight. (S

18、ee 2.41, Venting for Category II, III or IV Appliances.)1.25 Venting (Other Than Direct Vent Types)1.25.4 A venting system supplied with a Category II or IV appliance shall be constructed of material resistant to corrosion by condensate. (See 1.2.11 of the Standard for Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters,

19、Z21.88/CSA 2.33.) Nonmetallic material shall be judged on its temperature limitations, strength and resistance to the action of condensate. 1.25.5 A venting system supplied with a Category IV appliance shall be gastight. (See 2.41, Venting for Category II, III or IV Appliances.)1.25.6A venting syste

20、m supplied with a Category II or IV appliance shall be watertight. (See 2.41, Venting for Category II, III or IV Appliances.)* Means for venting may be accomplished by a method controlled by the manufacturer that shall result in both the appliance and the venting means being available at the time of

21、 installation. 31.34 Instructions1.34.1Each appliance shall be accompanied by clear, concise printed instructions and diagrams adequate for proper field assembly, installation, maintenance, safe use and operation. A boxed warning as shown shall be included:These instructions shall include:b. Install

22、ation instructions specifying:23. A maintenance schedule, when a means is provided to neutralize condensate, if required. 24. Periodic cleaning of the condensate collection and disposal system(s), if required.25. For Category II or IV appliances: (a) When the manufacturer supplies the venting system

23、, the instructions shall include a parts list and instructions covering the installation of properly identified parts to provide for the venting of the vent gases to the outdoors. (See 1.2.24.) (b) When the parts for venting the vent gases are not provided by the manufacturer and they are specific t

24、ypes listed by a nationally recognized testing agency, these instructions shall clearly identify and specify the use of the specific parts. (See 1.35.7-m.)j. For Category II and IV appliances, the venting system shall be installed in accordance with the appliance manufacturers instructions.k. Instru

25、ctions for proper venting installation:1. Horizontal portions of the venting system shall:(a) Be supported to prevent sagging. The methods of and intervals for supports shall be specified in the installation manuals.(b) Slope upwards not less than 1/4in/ft (21 mm/m) from the appliance to the vent te

26、rminal. A condensing appliance that does not condense in the venting system and does not allow water taps in the venting system may slope downward not less than 1/4in/ft (21 mm/m) from the appliance to the vent terminal.(c) Category II and IV appliances shall be installed so as to prevent accumulati

27、on of condensate in the venting system.2. Category II and IV appliance installations shall provide a means for removal of condensate. .3. For appliance installation instructions accompanying a direct vent appliance or other appliance that can utilize a side wall vent system shall include information

28、 on where the vent terminal can and cannot terminate, including:Attention: This appliance is NOT to be installed in Canada.4For Category II and Category IV appliances, the following statement:The vent for this appliance shall not terminate:(a) Over public walkways; or(b) Near soffit vents or crawl s

29、pace vents or other areas where condensate or vapor could create a nuisance or hazard or cause property damage; or(c) Where condensate vapor could cause damage or could be detrimental to the operation of regulators, relief valves, or other equipment.1.35 Markings1.35.2RATING PLATE(S). Each appliance

30、 shall bear a plate, or a combination of plates in proximity, of Class IIIA marking material located so as to be easily read when the appliance is in a normally installed position. A rating plate(s) applied to the inner surface of a control compartment door is considered acceptable. The following in

31、formation shall appear on the plate(s): n. Identification of this Requirement: “CSA 1.09 U.S., Vented Condensing Gas Fireplace Heater,” and by indicating either the edition of the standard or the most recent effective addenda thereto, with one of the following markings: “ANS Z21.88-(year) CSA 2.33-(

32、year), Vented Gas Fireplace Heater;” “ANS Z21.88a(year) CSA 2.33a-(year), Vented Gas Fireplace Heater;” or“ANS Z21.88b-(year) CSA 2.33b-(year), Vented Gas Fireplace Heater.” u. Category and maximum vent gas temperature of an appliance, as applicable: 1. “Category II/_F ( _C) maximum vent gas tempera

33、ture.” 2. “Category IV/_F (_C) maximum vent gas temperature.” This marking does not apply to appliances that are certified for use with specific venting systems that clearly identify and specify the use of these specific parts in the instructions accompanying the appliance. This marking does not app

34、ly to appliances for outdoor installation incorporating integral venting systems.1.35.7INSTALLATION MARKING. Each appliance shall bear:m. An appliance marked as a Category II, III or IV appliance shall bear a marking which states: “This appliance requires a special venting system. Refer to the insta

35、llation instructions for parts list and method of installation.” On parts supplied by the appliance manufacturer for venting vent gases from the appliance to the outdoors, the parts shall be identified. 51.36 Condensate Disposal 1.36.1Components within the appliance related to the collection and dis

36、posal of condensate shall not be adversely affected by the acidity of the condensate. 1.36.2 On a Category II or IV appliance, means shall be provided for the collection and disposal of condensate, as determined under 2.40, Category Determination. 1.36.3 A venting system for use with a Category II o

37、r IV appliance shall have means provided for the collection and disposal of condensate. 1.36.4 A condensate trap(s), if necessary for compliance with 2.42, Condensate Disposal Systems, shall be provided as part of the appliance or supplied with the appliance along with instructions for proper instal

38、lation. 1.36.5 The condensate drain line(s) supplied shall not be adversely affected by the composition of the condensate. (Condensate drain line(s) include any line inside the appliance or connected to the venting system that transports condensate.)1.36.6 Where a condensate neutralizer is provided,

39、 an overflow shall be provided such that condensate shall be directed to the drain in the event the neutralizer becomes plugged. 1.37 Condensate Pumps1.37.1 A condensate pump shall comply with the applicable provisions of the Standard for Liquid Pumps, CSA C22.2 No. 108, and the Standard for Motor O

40、perated Water Pumps, UL 778.1.37.2 A condensate pump shall be mounted in a non-combustible enclosure.7Part II: Performance2.1 General 2.1.17 All applicable performance requirement outlined in the current Standard for Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters, ANSI Z21.88/CSA 2.33, also apply to a vented condensi

41、ng gas fireplace heater unless otherwise specified herein.2.1.18 A Category II, III or IV appliance shall comply with all of the applicable performance provisions specified in the Standard for Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters, Z21.88 CSA 2.33, with the minimum vent length specified by the manufacturer.

42、In addition, the tests specified in 2.4, Combustion, 2.6, Burner Operating Characteristics, 2.9, Pilot Burners and Safety Shutoff Devices, and 2.10, Direct Ignition Systems, (in Z21.88 CSA 2.33), shall be conducted with the appliance equipped with the maximum vent length specified by the manufacture

43、r. Other vent configurations deemed critical may be tested at the discretion of the testing agency. The vent terminal or cap supplied or specified by the manufacturer shall be in place during all performance tests, unless otherwise specified. 2.40 Category Determination An appliance shall be determi

44、ned to be a Category I, II, III or IV appliance (see Part IV, Definitions) by the following Method of Test. If the Method of Test identifies an appliance to be other than a Category II or IV appliance, the appliance will be considered outside the confines of this Requirement.The following categoriza

45、tion pressure test provisions do not apply to appliances equipped with draft hoods or draft diverters, and not equipped with a mechanical draft system downstream of the draft hood or diverter. These appliances should be assigned to Categories I or II (non-positive vent pressure). (See Part IV, Defin

46、itions.) The following categorization pressure test provisions do not apply to appliances equipped with co-axial type power vent systems. Power vented appliances with co-axial type direct vent systems shall be assigned to Categories III or IV for venting components located downstream of the power ve

47、nt and categories I or II for venting components located upstream of the power vent. Non-power vented appliances should be assigned to Categories I or II (non-positive vent pressure). The following categorization temperature test provisions do not apply to appliances equipped with co-axial type dire

48、ct vent systems. Appliances with co- axial direct vent systems, which attain the minimum temperature requirements of 2.35, Allowable Vent Pipe, Heating Element and Load-Bearing Flue Gas Baffle Temperatures, in the Standard for Vented Gas Fireplace Heaters, Z21.88 CSA 2.33, when tested with the maxim

49、um vent length shall be assigned Category I or III. Appliances with co-axial direct vent systems, which do not attain the minimum temperature requirements of 2.35 when tested with the maximum vent length, shall be assigned Category II or IV. The categorization provisions do not apply to appliances for outdoor installation. Method of TestThis test shall be conducted using natural gas only, unless the appliance is for use with liquefied petroleum (propane) gas only, or if the manufacturer specifies different inputs for natural and liquefied petroleum (propane) gas. 8The a
