2、rmy, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers a frame mounted gasoline-engine-driven, air compressor for producing air suitable for breathing. Only commercial vendors approved by the Naval Sea Systems Command

3、 (Code OOC), Alexandria, VA. are to pro- vide the subject unit. The Authorized for Navy Use (ANU) equipment list, NAVSEA Instruction 10560.2 shall be used when procuring the unit and repair/replacement parts. nature of the unit. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede appli

28、cable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Description. The compressor shall be portable, and shall consist of a compressing unit, driven by a gasoline engine, and shall produce not less than 5 cubic feet per minute of free air (cfm) at 3200 pounds

29、per square inch gage (psig). Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other unless protected against galvanic corrosion. metals and methods of protection are defined and detailed in MIL-STD-889 and NAVFAC DM-39. The contractor shall identify the specific material, material finish or treatment for use with component and subcomponent, and shall make information available upon request to the contracting officer or designated representative. 3.3.4 Recovered materials. For the purpose of this requirement, re

37、covered materials are those materials which have been collected from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as distinguished from virgin raw materials. The components, pieces and parts incorporated in the compressor may be newly fabricated from recovered materials to the ma

38、ximum extent practicable, provided the compressor produced meets all other requirements of this specification. Used, rebuilt or remanufactured components, pieces and parts shall not be incorporated.in the compressor. 3.4 Environmental conditions. 3.4.1 Operation at extreme temperatures. The compress

39、or shall operate as specified herein under the following conditions. 3.4.1.1 Low temperatures. The compressor shall start and operate as specified herein for not less than 2 hours at rated capacity in any ambient temperature down to minus 25 OF. 3.4.1.2 High temperatures. The compressor shall start

40、and operate as specified herein at any ambient temperature up to plus 110 OF for not less than 8 hours at rated capacity. 3.4.2 - Rain. The compressor shall start and operate as specified herein after exposure to 1/2 hour of rainfall at a minimum rate of 3 inches per hour directed simultaneously at

All reciprocating, rotating or moving parts of the compressor shall be guarded when such parts are exposed to contact by person

42、nel or otherwise create a hazard. exhaust pipes and other lines which may be subject to high temperatures, exposed to contact by personnel or which create a fire hazard, shall be fully guarded or insulated, endanger personnel, and so that the possibility of exhaust entering into the compressor unit

43、inlet is minimized. Electrical equipment, wires, and connectors shall be effectively guarded or insulated to protect all persons and objects from electrical shock hazard.
