REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Standard sample.- Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the contracting officer shall furnish a standard sample for matching color shades and colorfastness to water and weatheri

7、ng only. 3.2 First article.- When specified (see 6.2), before production is commenced, a sample of the finished flag shall be submitted or made available to the contracting officer or his authorized representative for inspection.and tests as specified in 4.2. The approval of the first article author

8、izes the commencement of production but does not relieve the manufacturer of responsiblity for compliance with all ap- plicable provisions of this specification. in the same manner and by the same facilities to be used for the production items. The first article shall be manufactured 3.3 Materials,-

9、 Mater the requirements specified als shall conform to the referenced specifications and herein. 3.3.1 Cloth, cotton.- The base cloth shall conform to the type VI, class 2 of CCC-C-446, with the fol low ng exceptions: a. Colorfastness to light, laundering, bleaching, perspiration, and b. The non-fib

10、rous material in the cloth shall not exceed 6.2 percent. c. The shrinkage shall not exceed 6.0 percent in the warp direction and d. The filling picks per inch shall be 56 plus or minus 5. crocking shall not apply. 8.2 percent in the filling direction. 3.3.1.1 Printing.- The flag design (see 3.4), sh

11、all be printed so that the warp threads of the muslin shall be in the fly (longitudinal) direction of the flag. The colors shall be as follows: Old Glory Blue - Cable No. 70075 Old Glory Red - Cable No. 70180 idhite - Cable No. 7000

13、1 equal to or better than the standard sample. When a standard sample is not avail- able, the finished flag shall show good colorfastness to weathering. 3.3.1.3 Colorfastness.- The finished flag shall show colorfastness to weathering 3.3.2 Thread.- The thread for stitching the hems shall be white, s

14、oft finish, cotton, machine thread and shall be not finer than ticket No. 50, 3 ply, type IA2 of V-T-276. 3.3.3 .- The wood for the staff shall be a clear, straight grained well seasoned hardwood conforming to N4-L-736. used : Ash (White) Locust (Black) Any of the following wood species may.be Beech

15、 Maple, hard (Sugar or Black) Birch (Sweet or Yellow) Oak (Red or White) Elm (Rock) Pecan 3.3.4 Staples.- Staples shall be bright, blued or zinc-coated than .O21 inch in diameter. The staples shall be of the size and ly attach the flag to the flagstaff. 3.4 Design.- The design of the flag shall be i

16、n accordance wi 5-1-17. The finished flag shall be 7 inches, plus 1/2 inch, minus hoist dimension and 11 inches, plus 1/2 inch, minus O inch, in the steel wire not less eg length to secure- h Drawing No. O inch, in the fly direction. All measurements are to be made ontheface side ofthe flag, which i

17、s the side nearest the observer when the flag is held with the canton or union in the upper left hand corner. The interior dimensions of the flag shall be as shown on Drawing No. 5-1-17. Toler- ances for dimensions exceeding 1 inch shall be plus or minus 1/8 inch and those less than 1 inch shall be

18、plus or minus 1/16 inch for the interior dimensions. 3.5 Construction.- 3.5.1 -.- Hemming shall be accomplished using thread specified in 3.3.2, and stitch type 301, seam type EFb-1 of FED-STD-751, with not less than 8 stitches per inch or more than 10 stitches per inch. Flag hems shall be not less

19、than 1/8 inch and may be up to 3/8 inch wide. Selvage edges need not be hemmed provided the stripe meets the dimensional requirements. All sides of the flag shall be perpendicular or parallel to each other. 3.5.2 Spearheads.- Spearheads shall be fabricated from wood specified in 3.3.3. The spearhead

20、s shall be tapered, turned or sanded smooth and gilded witha hole drilled in the base to a minimum depth of 1/2 inch to accept the staff. The finished spear- heads shall be 2-1/4 inches, plus 1/4 inch, minus O inch, in length. 3.5.3 Staff.- The staff for the flag shall be fabricated from wood specif

21、ied in 3.3.3. Dowels not less than 3/8 inch in diameter shall be turned or sanded smooth. One end of the staff shall be tapered to a diameter of 1/8 inch, plus or minus 1/32 inch. The length of the taper shall be 1-1/2 inches, plus or minus 1/4 inch. The staffs shall be natural color of the wood wit

23、nches, plus 1/2-inch, minus O inch, in length. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Inspection responsibility.- Unless otherwise specified in the contract or pu

25、rchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the per- formance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government, The Government reserves the right to perfo

Each 5.1.2 Level C.- Assembled flags shall be preserved and packaged in a manner which will afford adequate protection against corrosion, deterioration, and physical damage during shipment from the supply source to the first receiv

The 5.2 Packing.- Packing shall be level A, B, or C as specified (see 6.2). 5.2.1 Level A.- Flags packaged a5 specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a snug- -1 fitting fiberboard shipping containe

49、r conforming to class weather-resistant, V3c or VS, style RSC of PPP-B-636. Closure shall be in accordance with the appendix of the container specification. The contents in each shipping container shall not exceed the size and weight limitations of the container specification. 5.2.2 Level B.- Flags packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a snug- fitting, shipping container conforming to type CF, weather-resistant of PPP-B-636.
