8、 emergency shower/eye and face wash systems to mix hot and cold water to provide“tepid“ water. The term “tepid“ has not been specifically defined, but is generally understoodto mean “lukewarm“ or “moderately warm“.These devices, while designed for automatic control of the hot water temperature withi

9、n areasonable degree of uniformity, should not be confused or used in place of the ASSE Stan-dard 1016, 1017, 1069 or 1070 devices. Valves designed to meet this standard are intendedto be used as a component that can provide tepid water for emergency eye wash and showerequipment that comply with the

10、 requirements of ANSI Standard Z358.1. These valves, bythemselves, do not meet the requirements of ANSI Standard Z358.1.In circumstances where chemical reaction is accelerated by flushing fluid temperature, perANSI Z358.1 a medical advisor should be consulted for the optimum temperature for eachappl

26、Actuated MixingValves For Plumbed EmergencyEquipmentSection I1.0 General1.1 ApplicationTemperature Actuated Mixing Valves for Plumbed Emergency Equipment (herein referred to as“device“), including eyewash, eye/face wash, drench showers, and combination units are intendedto be installed in systems th

27、at comply with ANSI Z358.1.1.2 Scope1.2.1 DescriptionThese devices shall consist of a hot water inlet connection, a cold water inlet connection, a mixedwater outlet connection, a temperature controlling element, and a means for adjusting the mixedwater outlet temperature while in service. The device

28、 shall also have a means to limit the maximumoutlet temperature under normal operating conditions. Provisions shall be made so that thetemperature cannot be inadvertently adjusted.1.2.2 ConnectionsDimensions of pipe threads, flanges and other connections shall conform to appropriate industrystandard

29、s.1.2.3 Maximum Working PressureThe device shall be designed to function at a maximum working pressure of at least 125.0 psi(861.9 kPa).1.2.4 Temperature Range1.2.4.1 Inlet Water Temperature RangeThe hot water inlet temperature range shall be 120.0 F to 180.0 F (48.9 C to 82.2 C), and thecold water

30、inlet temperature range shall be 40.0 F to 70.0 F (4.4 C to 21.0 C). The cold watersupply shall be at least 20.0 F (11.0 C) lower than the outlet water temperature setting.1.2.4.2 Outlet Water Temperature RangeThe device shall be capable of supplying the emergency fixture with an adjustable range, a

31、 portionof which falls within 65.0 F to 95.0 F (18.3 C to 35.0 C). The outlet temperature shall not exceed100.0 F (37.8 C) under normal operating conditions.1.2.5 Hot Water FailureUpon hot water failure, the cold water shall continue to flow at the manufacturers rated by-passflow rate at 30.0 psi (2

39、Performance Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 Conditioning Test3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to verify that the device continues to function when subjected to atemperature of 200.0 F (93.3 C) at a flowing pressure of 125.0 psi (861.9 kPa).3.1.2 ProcedureInstall the device as shown in

40、 Figure 1, except supply hot water to both cold water and hot waterinlets. Open valve V2 fully. Open valve V1 sufficiently to allow hot water to bleed through the deviceto maintain a temperature of 200.0 F 5.0 F (93.3 C 2.8 C) at T3, and maintain a pressureof 125.0 psi 5.0 psi (861.9 kPa 34.5 kPa) a

41、t gauge P3, or the manufacturers maximum ratedworking pressure, whichever is higher. Run the test for six (6) hours.NOTE: If the device is incapable of flowing due to the design of the device, the design featureshould be disabled per the manufacturers recommendation for purposes of this test only.4

43、 Test3.1.3 CriteriaVisibly check the device for leaks, distortion or damage. Any leaks or indication of change in thephysical characteristics of the materials which prevent full compliance with any subsequent testsin this standard shall result in a rejection of the device.(1) Thermocouples identifie

48、ainedwithin the tolerances shown in Table 1.3.2.2 ProcedureInstall the device as shown in Figure 1. Supply water at 140.0 F 3.0 F (60.0 C 1.7 C) to thehot water inlet; and supply water at 60.0 5.0 (15.6 C 2.8 C) to the cold water inlet.
