Process4.1 The steel shall be made by the electric-furnace process.Additional refining by vacuum arc remelt
9、or electroslag ispermitted.5. Manufacture5.1 The forged rolls shall receive their hot mechanical workunder a press or hammer of ample capacity to work the metalthroughout its section. However, 6-in. 150-mm diameter orless rolls may be produced from rolled bars.6. Discard6.1 Sufficient discard shall
10、be made from each ingot tosecure freedom from piping and undue segregation.7. Heat Treatment8.1 The method of heat treatment and hardening shall be atthe option of the manufacturer.9. Hardness Requirements9.1 The manufacturer shall supply rolls to the hardnessranges agr
14、eed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.9.2 A hardness range of either 5 points Shore scleroscope or100 numbers Vickers hardness is permissible.10. Hardness Testing10.1 Each roll shall be tested for hardness and shall bewithin limits specified on the order. The Shore forged rollscleroscope (H
15、FRSCor HFRSD), Rockwell hardness tester,Vickers hardness penetrator, or Leeb hardness tester (in accor-dance with Test Method A956) may be used to determinecompliance with the hardness range specified. The approxi-mate relationship between Shore HFRSCscleroscope anddiamond pyramid hardness is shown
16、in Table 1.10.2 The stage of processing at which hardness testing isconducted and the number and location of tests may be agreedupon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.10.3 A sufficient number of hardness tests shall be made toensure the required uniformity, both longitudinally and circum-ferenti
17、ally.11. Soundness11.1 The material shall be free of injurious imperfections.12. Workmanship12.1 The roll shall conform to the dimensions and surfacefinish specified by the purchaser.13. Marking13.1 Each roll shall be permanently identified with markingby the manufacturer on the end face of the jour
18、nals, unlessotherwise specified.14. Report14.1 The manufacturer shall furnish a report of the hardnesstest. The type, model, and instrument used shall be reported. Inthe case of the Vickers hardness readings, the load shall bereported.15. Inspection15.1 The manufacturer shall afford the purchasers i
19、nspectorall reasonable facilities necessary to satisfy him that thematerial is being produced and furnished in accordance withthis specification. All tests and inspections shall be made at theplace of manufacture, unless otherwise specified, and shall notinterfere unnecessarily with the manufacturer
20、s operations.16.
