Manufacture4.1 The steel shall be made by any of the
7、 followingprocesses: electric-furnace or basic-oxygen.4.2 The steel may be cast by a continuous process, or iningots.4.3 The heads and threads of the spikes may be formed byhot- or cold-forming methods.5. Mechanical Requirements5.1 Tensile Requirements:5.1.1 The material as represented by a tension
8、test of afull-size finished spike, or a specimen machined from afinished spike, shall conform to the requirements prescribed inTable 1.5.1.2 Tension tests of full-size spikes shall be performedusing a 10 wedge as described in Test Methods A 370,Supplement S11.1.5.5.1.3 Where the design of the spike
9、is such that full-sizetesting is impracticable, the tension test may be made on aspecimen machined from a finished spike. Dimensions of thetest specimen shall conform to the requirements of TestMethods A 370.5.1.4 When a machined specimen test is performed, theelongation requirement prescribed in Ta
10、ble 1 shall apply. If ascrew spike is machined and the specimen is tested andreported. the elongation meets or exceeds 18 %, the bend testis not required. See 5.2.5.1.5 The yield point shall be determined by the drop of thebeam or halt in the gage of the testing machine.5.2 Bend RequirementThe body
11、of a full-size finishedspike shall withstand the bend test described in Table 2 withoutcracking on the outside of the bent portion.6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 The finished spikes shall conform to the dimensionsspecified by the purchaser, subject to the permissible variationsprescribe

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The head of the finished spikes shall be concentric withand firmly joined to the body.7.2 The material shall be free of injurious imperfections andshall have a workmanlike finish.8. Number of Tests and Retests8.1 One t
16、ension test and one bend test shall be made fromeach lot of 100 kegs or fraction thereof.8.2 If the percentage of elongation of a machined tensiontest specimen is less than that specified in Table 1 and any partof the fracture is more than34 in. (19 mm) from the center ofthe gage length, as indicate
17、d by scribe scratches marked on thespecimen before testing, a retest shall be allowed.8.3 If, during the tension or bend tests, a previously undis-covered material or manufacturing flaw should be disclosedthat interferes with the test or the interpretation of results, thesubstitution of another samp
18、le spike shall be permitted after itis demonstrated to the satisfaction of the purchaser or hisrepresentative, that the condition is not typical of the remainderof the lot.8.4 If any test specimen fails because of mechanical reasonssuch as failure of testing equipment or improper specimenpreparation
19、, it may be discarded and another specimen taken.9. Inspection9.1 The manufacturer shall afford the purchasers inspectorall reasonable facilities necessary to satisfy that the material isbeing produced and furnished in accordance with the specifi-cation. Mill inspection by the purchaser shall not in
20、terfereunnecessarily with the manufacturers operations. All tests andinspections shall be made at the place of manufacture, unlessotherwise agreed upon.10. Rejection and Rehearing10.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejections shall be reporte
21、dto the manufacturer or supplier promptly and in writing. In caseof dissatisfaction with the test results, the manufacturer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.11. Certification and Test Report11.1 When specified in the purchaser order or contract, amanufacturers certification shall be furnish
22、ed to the purchaserthat the material was produced and tested in accordance withthis specification and has been found to meet the requirements.11.2 When specified in the purchase order or contract, areport of the chemical and mechanical test results shall befurnished.11.3 A Material Test Report, Cert
23、ificate of Inspection, orsimilar document printed from or used in electronic form froman electronic data interchange (EDI) transmission shall beregarded as having the same validity as a counterpart printed inthe certifiers facility. The content of the EDI transmitteddocument must meet the requiremen
24、ts of the invoked ASTMstandard(s) and conform to any existing EDI agreement be-tween the purchaser and the supplier.11.4 Notwithstanding the absence of a signature, the orga-nization submitting either a printed document (Material TestReport, Certificate of Inspection or similar document) or anEDI tr
